I understand what Dirk is trying to say. P4P lists should be primarily based on skills in my eyes ('skills' meaning how you think they would fare against their peers in hypothetical match-ups where weight and size aren't an issue) but that is obviously unavoidably tied in with recent résumé, as afterall, how can you truly gauge how good a boxer's skills are unless he's fought worthy opposition in the first place?

That said I think Paul is better than Hopkins currently and would beat him were they the same size.

Paul Williams had no standards, he went unmentioned for awhile. He was willing to go up and down in weight to fight the best fighter out there. We all know that you as mandatory, you can also take a backseat. Sanctioning bodies will somehow put on hold the mandatory if a big money fight comes along to the fighter who holds the belt.

Even if it was just inside, it's in the top 20 which refutes your point. And you're off - Margarito was at worst, a fringe pound for pounder.

And yes, Winky Wright was in the top 20 as well. Actually, he was the favorite for that bout.

Hatton was a Top 10 P4Pounder. How skilled was he?
Hopkins skills are so far ahead of Williams' that that alone is enough to rank him higher. Throw in the resumes if you want and it still aint lookin good for the Punisher.

Williams isnt that skilled and his resume consists of a close win over Margarito and getting outboxed by Martinez. That aint P4P in my book. I give him credit for seeking out tough fights but again, that aint enough by itself unless you perform.

Thats cool But when 7 different Publications think hes at least Top 10 and some Top 5. That counts for something.

Thankfully, it's NOT based on that. Because a lot of fighters look good when matched with nobodies. It's why resume is the chief criteria, then skills.

Young as opposed to the likes of Floyd, Shane and BHop.

I have Ward and Dawson above him.

How was he outboxed by Martinez? Martinez said that was the toughest fight of his career.
