Why Exactly Is James Toney So Revered?

    Cuando:

    -he is fat (presently)
    -he is disrespectful
    -he is lazy (always)
    -tested positive for steroids
    -he loses/draws to bums
-he lost almost all of his big name fights
-his record is filled with wins against BUMS and/or unheard of people
-his only notable big wins are against Jirov and an OLD SHOT holyfield
-has victories against people he shouldn't (boxing politics)

-his skills are undeniable yet he didn't achieve what has expected of him (because of his high skill set)

i don't hate james toney, i think he has good skills but i thin he is WAY OVERRATED (based on accomplishments and skills)..........and i wonder exactly why is the man so loved, and gets so little hate (compared to someone like roy jones jr., who defeated him rather easily might i add)

What about his middleweight title win over a then good Nunn and super middle title win over Barlkey. He is a throwback fighter, using oldschool skills. He is probably through now but in his time he was good. One of the toughest defensive fighters of an era.

he was good, there is no denying that....

but he was never as great as he could have been (guy with his skill set)

i just wonder how a career underachiever kan be so loved

If you're saying he's an underachiever, I agree, but he's not overrated in my book. Besides those loses against Griffin were robberies, in both fights.

He's the best fighter/talker of all time. Floyd is great, Ali is great, but Toney is in a class all by himself with the words and he did have mad skills. No doubt he pissed it away alot but you cant deny his skillset and he aint afraid of anyone

He hasnt fought bums ... if u compare james toney to roy jones's record he ****s all over rjj , he's not a ***** , he'll fight anyone , the fact that he's gone from middleweight all the way to heavyweight and been champion in every weight class, and he's 5'8 1/2 and ****in with the big boys ... yeah i know what your saying about his skills and that , maybe if he didnt go to burger king so much he would be so much better , but the fact that he can be fat and overweight and still school 99% of the boxers out there speaks for itself ... And he's funny as **** lol ... ohh yeah and he hasnt been knocked out in in 83 fights , and only been knocked down i think once or twice...

you really dont know **** if you say toney win over jivrov is bigger than nunn and barkley. toney as ike 70 80 fights fights every and anyone win or lose. high skill level never been knockedout. he lost fights because of not being in shape and such. he still fought did what he had to do. and he was robed against griffen twice and agaisnt peter first fight. he talks trash which makes the fights funny and good. like old days his skills are crazy thats why he can fight and be old and fight heavyweights and win lose or whatever n not be knocked out and never afriad. toney is a beast always was and always will be. boxing is about entertaining the fans and thats what he does.

and his fight with jivrov is classic
