Why does Floyd always say "aks" instead of "ask"?

No, but this is where the original pronunciation was preserved. Over time it spread amongst certain groups of people, namely African Americans. Many black people in England pronounce it the same way despite being several generations removed (or perhaps unrelated) to people from the West Indies.Comment

Your'e a smart guyLinguistics is a fascinating topic. You'd be astounded at the number of words which were pronounced totally differently in the old days: ask - aks, bird - brid, night - nikt. Common Queen's English (which many people automatically asume is the "correct" way of pronouncing words) is actually a relatively modern invention. You're more likely to find original English accents in the former colonies, as well as some isolated villages in the north of England.

Curiously enough, it's an older pronunciation of the word "ask" which comes from the word "acsian". The current pronunciation of the word as "ask" is actually the corruption of the word as it was originally pronounced. Many people from the West Indies and Southern States of America still pronounce it the old way.
You're just as mistaken as Floyd.
The root words are Frisian/Old English ascian
and from protoGremanic askojian.
Neither can be confused as pronouncable as "aks".
No doubt, but he's wrong on this one, and I'd like to believe
it's an honest mistake, not a deliberate lie just to make Floyd
look good. Bottom line is he's mispronouncing a word that
I assume he can write --or do I start pronouncing "Floyd"
as "Flawed" just because 'that's how we do it locally'?
Too many etymological citations on the web, like this one:
"ask, call for an answer; make a request," earlier ahsian, from Proto-Germanic… See origin and meaning of ask.

Then state it that way. There's no need to post erroneous
etymology to try and justify what is CLEARLY mispronunciation.
The word is spelled "ask".
Anyone who can read/write that fucker can see just HOW clear the mispronunciation is.
