Golden Boy and Top Rank hold most of the HBO dates, freezing out other talented fighters and mid-level promoters. It limits the exposure and depth of boxing. HBO is concerned with attracting the "casual fan". They aren't concerned about us. They see us as a limited audience. They want to expand their subscription base.
Guys like Mayweather in conjunction with HBO are engaged in a relationship that is detrimental to the sport's long-term health, same as when Oscar was active. Mayweather is a log-jam at welterweight because he calls all the shots and HBO gives him the dates to do it. Mayweather won't fight another tough welterweight unless it makes financial sense, which is okay but a millionaire is still a millionaire right? You will always hear him say "if it doesn't make business sense", then he won't do it. It's tough to relate to someone who thinks like that, at least it is for me, don't know about you guys. It's certainly not inspiring although I guess I can understand it to some degree.

If I had a $1 for everytime I read "The fight between so and so is off due to disagreements about money" then I might be quite well off myself. To me, it makes quite a statement when a fighter changes his nickname to "money". Thats why it drives me a little nuts when people say Pac would have never walked away from so much money if he were clean. This doesn't make sense from FMJ aspect as he is ALL about the money and he walked away too so clearly you can't put it on one and not the other. Guys like Paulie M say on live TV that they "hate boxing" and only do it for the money (translation: f@ck the fans), but yet is all up in the news media talking trash about every boxer out there, and refusing to fight the likes of Kahn because he deserves more money than Kahn. Hey, I get the money aspect for the fighters so don't get me wrong... they are there to earn a living not to do it for free, and it's far from an easy living. My point is that it is so obviously less about what we (the people that make the money go round) want and more about seemingly outrageous amounts of money a fighter wants to fight with the least amount of risk, who, is controlled by the promoter or HBO/Showtime.Last edited by switchsouthpaw; 02-06-2010, 03:32 PM.

i dont know what you people saw but floyd didnt have difficulty with DLH. most was ineffective aggression and missing punches from dlh. floyd just respected DLH's size alittle more. but notice...floyd starting standing right in front of DLH, backing DLH up, even walking into DHL and pushing him back

If you watch the fight, Floyd coulda ended it early by going offensive cause DLH stood right there. But DLH defense was on point no doubt, but as the rounds went on those punches started connecting more
