Because Malignaggi can't punch, Maidana has a very powerful punch, Maidana recently won a fight of the year candidate against the most hyped US prospect in the whole of boxing, so he is very well known in the States, which means the excuses about Maidana not being a "name" are complete bull****; Maidana is Khan's mandatory; Khan has not proved that he is capable of beating anyone who can punch, and it's only a year since he was destroyed by a puncher who is far inferior to Maidana; and in those circumstances, for Khan to call himself a "world champion" while ducking the first mandatory he gets against someone who can punch, is pathetic. If he does that, he deserves absolutely zero respect from true boxing fans. And I have consistently defended Khan up to this point. But if he gives up his belt in order to avoid Maidana, and fights a feather-fisted puncher instead, then he's simply a chicken, and a fraud. Anyone who says otherwise is not a boxing fan.

Because he claims to be a world champion. World champions don't duck the first mandatory they get who can punch. If he didn't think he was ready to fight anyone who could punch, he shouldn't have fought for a title and called himself a world champion. There were plenty of other good learning fights available to him at that time. To call himself a world champion and then vacate the moment he gets a mandatory who is a risk to his chin, is an insult to the sport of boxing.

He won't do either any time soon but I'm not gonig to be thanking him for fighting Paulie, who wouldn't be much of a threat IMO
I was thinking this exact same thing. Fighting guys who you know have little to no pop from here on out isnt something to look foward to. Fights like this only make people want to pray for youre downfall. We vilify fighters on here every other day for doing **** like this, and this guy holds a goddamn belt, come on.

Hes a champion, dont call youreself a champ or a world class fighter when you avoid people whom you think might trouble you. these arent big money megafights, considering his ego, i expect just a little bit more.

Diaz is a pressure fighter, styles make fights.

Diaz hit, Marquez, Campbell, Katsidis at will too. Pressure fighters get their hits in no matter how good your defense is. A pressure fighter's downfall is that they have ****ty defense.

Look at Castillo vs Mayweather 1, Cotto vs Margarito.

My point is, Khan is not a pressure fighter, therefore this fight will not be another Diaz-Malignaggi or Hatton-Malignaggi type of fight. I see this more as a boxing match than anything else.

You've hit the nail on the head there and ive been trying to tell people this for a while, as long as the competition is a high level then there is nothing wrong with avoiding the big punchers for now. He has still only been with roach for a short time, and lets be honest here malignaggi is a better fighter than maidana, he is a level above salita, and kotelnik.

People will not stop with the hate until khan schools a puncher, and that time will come, I can't believe how impatient people are and generally ignoring the facts...he has won a world title against a modest champion, he defended spectacularly against his mandatory, he now has a voluntary, the malignaggi fight is a good fight to take in terms of learning and a good business decision, its not like khan will bull rush paulie like hatton and cotto did, thats not his style, he will have to beat him with skill and speed, it will be a technical fight (thats to paulie advantage) and I believe it will be hard and competitive. Then I truly believe they will make the maidana fight and I hope and believe khan shuts everyone up

Khan sould be fighting Maidana or even Nate Campbell. Paulie Maliggnaggi shouldn't be an option. He's extremely difficult to watch

That's absolute rubbish. He calls himself a world champion. You can't call yourself that if you don't think you are capable of beating anyone who can punch. There were plenty of good learning fights available to him when he chose to fight for the world title. He had no need to fight Kotelnik. He made the decision that he was ready to call himself a world champion. That means he must fight the best contenders, especially Maidana. To call himself a world champion and then vacate the moment he has a meaningful mandatory is not only pathetic, but it is also an insult to the sport of boxing, because it devalues the term "world champion".

If he ducks Maidana and gives up his title to fight a feather-fisted puncher like Malignaggi, the only fans he'll have left are nuthuggers who don't love any true love or respect for the sport.

The only fights he can duck Maidana for without losing the respect of all true boxing fans are Bradley, and possibly Marquez. But not Malignaggi.

Where did you get that idea from? The WBA has said that he has to fight Maidana within 90 days or they'll strip him.
