Pernell is really a better defender than Floyd is and just a greater fighter period.

Mayweather's defense is as good as Pernell's. The difference is (And alot of people confuse this) Whitaker's display of defense was more entertaining to watch. Although I love to watch Mayweather's display of defense also.

You're right, Whitaker wouldn't have much trouble with those guys, doesn't mean he'd beat Mayweather. Remember, Whitaker struggled with McGirt in the 1st bout and you could even debate that McGirt could have gotten a draw. Now Mayweather > McGirt. Of course I'm not gonna use that as an example because Boxing doesn't work that way. All I'm saying is that Mayweather would look alot better against Whitaker then he did against Zab Judah, not in the competitive department but in that we'll see a more offensive Mayweather, the best Mayweather will come out.

Whitaker was prime and untouchable as a LW. Arguably top 5 all time. You can even make a small case of being the greatest. Both Whitaker and Floyd were not as good at WW as they were in the lower divisions. So there best Floyd 130-140 to Whitaker 135/140. Whitaker beats him clearly.

But, even at 147 Floyd punch output is not high. So with Whitaker defense and footword believe Floyd output might be even lower. There is no way he would be more offensive. He is a counterpuncher by nature. And, if he tried to take the lead. Whitaker will counterpunch and pot shot him to a victory.

I disagree Whitaker defense was better. Again as a LW he could not be touch. This guys schooled and embarrassed ATG... This guy went up to 154 and cleary beat a very big very strong Velazquez. Velazquez is a guy who dropped Winky Wright 5 times. Yet he couldn't really hit a small Pernell. Pernell defense was better. Now Floyd offense is a little bit better than Whitaker. But, Whitaker defense was better.

Even if their defenses are even (and I still say Whitaker's was better), Pernell was MUCH more effective offensively than Mayweather. Unlike Floyd, Whitaker had a pretty high work rate.
