Good analogy with Kobe and VC. I'm one of the biggest RJJ fans but he does have a lot of technical flaws to his game. His physical abilities were so far and beyond his opponents, that he did not need to be technically sound. Alot of guys in the NBA are alot more athletic than Kobe, but no one can touch his skill set. There is a difference........
Roy Jones got by on pure reflexes, strength, and athleticsm.
He was just bigger faster and stronger then everyone..he never used talent....and by the time he got old and easy to hit...he didnt have a fundemental background to keep him off the mat.
I look at him like Michael Vick is in the NFL.........fast, exciting, big arm but no accuracy and awareness about what he does.
Look at Mayweather Jr............like Peyton Manning, efficient, smart, accurate, moderate arm, rarely makes mistakes, fundementally sound, and has top notch intelligence and awareness.
I believe thats the difference between TALENT and being ATHLETIC.
Heres an NBA example for those not familiar with football:
Look at one Vince Carter...high flying, dunk on you, crazy wild dunks, crazy hops, a good exciting young player who couldnt soot a basic jumper, didnt play defense and was a bad passer.
Now look at Kobe Bryant.........high flying, dunk on you, crazy wild dunks, a good exciting young player who has an accurate jumpe and 3 point shot, very clutch, is the best on ball defender in the NBA and the all around best player and a guy who gets his teamates involved.
Thats the difference.
Im not a Roy Jones hater.........I was a fan..but he weas not talented...he was just extremely athletic.....he culdve played in the NBA or NFL if he applied himself.Comment

RJJ has talent, RJJ without his incredible athleticism = Jean Pascal, a pretty good fighter himself.Comment

Well, he actually articulated as much in interviews. I believe the man if he says it.I have been watching Marquez for a long time as well. Always had a warrior's heart and great skills. And it is quite obvious to me that he didn't "change his style to please fans" but rather started getting hit more as he got older and was forced to do more trading. But everyone has their own set of eyes, I guess.Comment

Funny thread..and Vince Carter cant shoot J?
If Vince Carter didnt have talent, how come he's an All Star, was a franchise player, and one of the top scorers in the game?
Same with RJJ,if he didnt have talent, how did he become a champion?
Doesnt make sense.

This is the statement that I would agree the most with.Man, you've got it backwards. Talent is natural ability, like what Ali, Tyson and James Toney had. You can't learn what they had, you're born with it.
Then you have someone like Wladimir Klitschko who had to work and study for many years to develop his game plan. That's why he was getting knocked out when he was younger and inexperienced, but now people can't do **** to him.Comment
