Its a big fight, no argument there. But what happens if the fight is a dud like Oscar-Tito? That should have been career and legacy defining for both fighters. In the end there were more questions than answers, no? Either way, is the public really more interested in this fight than the opnes I pointed out, or do we just go by PPV?

What makes this fight bigger and more significant?

I wouldnt say all time, Maybe of the last 30 years because both fighter are at the same place in the sametime, This fight divides opinion and with the money involve it wold make it one of the biggest fight in a long time.

Ali and Frazier didn't have PPV, cable, satellite or a 24/7 series to promote it yet EVERYBODY in the world knew about it. How do you figure this can compare? Imagine if Louis-Schmelling had this kind of hype? Isolated villages in Tibet would have been watching. Im not trying to put it down, but in comparison, under the circumstances, it really isn't the biggest event in my opinion.

Im not taking away from this event, I just don't see it as the biggest or most important fight ever. As two other posters have already pointed out though, it will probably be the richest. To me that doesn't make it the biggest though.
I DISAGREE WITH ALL. This is the biggest fight for a couple of reasons.

Thats a fair assessment. How big do you think Hearns-Leonard would have been under the same circumstances as today?

Boxing is doing just fine and that wouldn't make it more important than the fights I outlined.

PPV wasn't around for the fights I named.

It could be argued that Pacquiao Mayweather is the biggest fight ever, however the reasons for it being the biggest fight ever may have less to do with the fight itself and more to do with the fact we live in a time where media is in fact global.

Ali and Frazier did not have the internet in their time and they still reached a global audience. Pacquiao and Mayweather is huge and it's appeal goes beyond traditional or casual boxing fans. The key word here is "reach" how many people will be aware of this fight taking place. More than likely this fight will have a greater reach than any other fight before it.

I think the fact that it's not a heavyweight bout is worth noting. But I agree that it isn't the biggest fight ever.
