Bull****. It was up to Calzaghe to make the fight happen because Tarver established himself in a big way by KOing Roy Jones. Calzaghe never even put up any offer of money for Tarver to go to Wales.

                and again

"But that would be the ultimate fight for me, because people would see how great a fighter I am when I beat Roy Jones," Calzaghe said.

The legendary Roy Jones is Calzaghe's long-term target

"He's one of the best fighters in the world, it would be a massive challenge," he told BBC Wales Today.

"I'll destroy him," said Calzaghe. "He's 37 now and his last good win was against Felix Trinidad 14 months ago.

"He's said some pretty derogatory things about me, that I haven't beaten anybody and don't deserve to be in the same ring with him.

"If that's the case why has he been avoiding me? I'll do a winner-takes-all - let's put our money together and go for that. Perhaps he knows it's likely to be his last fight.

                US demands Hopkins-Calzaghe 2003

BBC, Sport, BBC Sport, Sport Online, world, uk, international, foreign, british, online, service

"We have to get Joe to America and the right fight is Bernard Hopkins," said Showtime boxing chief Jay Larkin.

"Hopkins turned down a lot of money from us to fight Calzaghe last year, but after what Joe did to Mitchell we can up the ante and offer more."

"With Bernard you never know, he comes to us from outer space sometimes," Larkin added.

"I want a big fight in the States and Hopkins is who I'm looking for," said Calzaghe.

Hopkins turned down an offer of £3m to face Calzaghe last year, and since his last significant fight - against Felix Trinidad in 2001 - his financial demands have blown lucrative bouts with Roy Jones Jr and James Toney.

                http://news.bbc.co.uk/sport1/hi/boxing/3163285.stm

"Ottke's got to face me sooner or later," said Calzaghe, "I really want the fight, and Frank is doing everything he can to get it on, but Ottke's promoters are reluctant to take it.

"They are not confident of their man's chances against me but Ottke may as well take the fight now and get well paid as he will not get this payday anywhere else after he is beaten by me.

"I will fight him anywhere anytime and I would be more than happy to go to Germany and knock him out cold in front of his home fans.

"This fight would be no 12-round bore with Ottke running like a thief trying to win by nicking the rounds.

"I would take the fight straight to him and he would not be able to handle the power."

"What are you scared of? Put your belts on the line against mine and let us see who's the best and I will gladly go to Germany and beat you."

"You are claiming to be the best in the division, but you luckily beat Robin Reid - who I defeated nearly five years ago - and Byron Mitchell, who I stopped inside two rounds, which took you 12 rounds," Calzaghe added.

Promoter Frank Warren said: "Like Joe says, lets find out who's the best out there.

"Ottke believes he's the best in the division and also Bernard Hopkins is looking for a fresh challenge.

"Joe will fight either of them anywhere, anytime, in Germany or America and he comes out the winner in both."

                Calzaghe targets Johnson KO 2004

                http://news.bbc.co.uk/sport1/hi/boxing/3524624.stm

"If I smash Johnson to bits and do a good job it will send a challenge out to Antonio Tarver and Roy Jones Jr," Calzaghe told the Sports Network site.

"I can't see the fight going more than six or seven rounds to be honest. I know I'm going to become a two-weight world champion, it's my destiny."

                http://news.bbc.co.uk/sport1/hi/boxing/3719649.stm

"Jones never wanted to fight me at super middleweight and I pursued him to light heavyweight," said Calzaghe.

"I'm disappointed that Tarver knocked out Jones before I did, but he's called me out before and I am more than happy to get it on with him."

"Tarver's win has given me a massive incentive to really do a number on Johnson and get a fight with him," said Calzaghe.

"Tarver's now got the WBC title and I am confident of winning the IBF title so a unification showdown is a strong possibility.

"Tarver beat Jones the first time and I knew that he would beat him this time.

"Jones has always had a problem dealing with southpaws, that's why he never wanted to fight me.

He should lose the flab and fight me. But I don't think anyone can drag him out of his training camp at McDonalds.

I would love to kick Toney's behind now because I just missed out on doing it in the '90s when I was coming through

All of the greats have some cans on their resume.....Eubank, Reid, Kessler, Lacy(he was viewed as legit then & had a title), Jones, and Hopkins are solid wins on his resume......In my view he is the best SMW of all time and most of the hate comes from American bias I think.

                      It's just haters.

Honestly, i imagine Bhopreigh, somehow he pulls a hot girl, and he is on a date with her, about to get laid, and he is just talking to himself, saying "calzaghe is not better than hopkins" over and over again until the girl walks out in disgust, and he doesn't even notice, his life has been taken over so much by hatred of calzaghe!
