The way I see it is that until Joe fought Lacy, he wasn't considered a star or an elite fighter, but just a European titleholder. Had he wanted to fight Jones say, he would have had to take like 10% of the purse to Jone's 90%, thats not worth it to be disrespected.
After beating Lacy, he was in a position to fight the best, and he pretty much did thatComment

Yeah, but who else was he supposed to fight?
Jones, Hopkins and Toney all would never leave America, and all were considered big stars thanks to their wins over american tomato cans.
It's hard to break into a group like that.Comment

Darrin Morris ... it was a disgrace that he kept the WBO belt when it stood for nothing.
Hell... go face the other SW at the time Ottke...Comment

But even without Tarver, couldn't Calzaghe have fought another fighter considered at the top of their game? I'm tired of talking about this, because the points in my posts get ignored and the fan boys talk out of their ass. If Joe wants to retire on the paper thin record he's got, that's his right.Comment

Actually he fought Sakio Bika instead of Tarver and not Manfredo. Hopkins already took the bull by the horns by the time that Joe fought another contender. Two contenders in a row. That is why this guy's career is a big question mark.Comment
