imo Manny Pacquiao is greater than Whitaker, both in terms of resume and accomplishments.

          Pac's resume:

          Oscar De La Hoya
          Ricky Hatton
          Miguel Cotto
          Juan Manuel Marquez
          Marco Antonio Barrera(x2)
          Erik Morales(x2)

          Whitaker's resume:

Julio Cesar Chavez(he won that fight)
          Diosbelys Hurtado
          Greg Haugen
          Roger Mayweather
          Azumah Nelson
          Jorge Paez

Pac is a 7 weight world champion
Whitaker is a 4 weight world champion

In terms of skill then yes Whitaker is better but defenitley not in terms of resume and accomplishments. If we just go by skill then it wouldn't be to far fetched to call Zab Judah an all time great... Don't get me wrong, Pernell Whitaker is one of the best of all time... I just feel Pacquiao is slightly better.

Resume wise, Pacquiao is the greatest asian fighter, and also the greatest left handed fighter.

I think Sugar favors Pacquiao because of his offensive abilities, so much so that his footwork is most of his defense he doesn't "need" real defensive skills. Whitaker on the other hand was the other way around obviously.

I also think Pacquiao is ahead of Whitaker...but if they fought, prime vs. prime, Whitaker beats him.

                    Just my opinion.

                      I disagree with Burt Sugar

Lets take a look at their performance against their one common opponent, De La Hoya. Sweetpea fought a prime De la Hoya in a fight that many fans feel that Sweetpea won by boxing and using his great defense and was clearly near the end of his career when he did it. The roles had reversed by the time Pacman fought Dela Hoya, Oscar was the old vet coming down from 160 pounds to make 145. Pacman clearly won this fight but the serious boxing fans know that Oscar was a former shell of himself and seriously weight drained. I would say that the 135 pound prime version of Sweetpea beats the 126 pound prime Pacman. Sweetpea is better defensive, intelligent, fast hands and ring generalship would give him the edge. Pacman would have the edge in power, but if JMM could give Pacman hell at the lighterweight classes, then I am sure that Sweatpeas counter punching would give JMM fits.

As for resumes, Sweatpea clearly has the better resume. He beat two all time greats in Azumah Nelson and Julio Chavez in their respective primes. Pacman doesnt have anybody on his resume that is greater than those two fighters!!
