No doubt, any job that involves teaching, which is essentially what a trainer does, requires a tremendous amount of patience to do well. In any endeavor, great participants very often don't make the best coaches. Teaching is about communication. Some people have all kinds of knowledge in their heads but can't express it in a usable way. Even then, the very best have talents that often can't be explained or transferred to someone else.
In any event, I would still appreciate an answer to my initial question: "What you would have advised your fighter to do against Manny in that fight?"Comment

Manny is a very erky jerky type of a fighter. If you read my post before the fight, I said Manny's foot speed would be the difference in the fight and it was. He is able to get in and out of distance very fast and that's where he creates offense and defense.
I would have trained Cotto to try and nullify that foot speed with his jab. I know Cotto is not much of a counter puncher and can't fight very well going backwards as we have seen in the past. At the same time, rushing in on Pac isn't a good idea because he feints and lands straight hard shots.
I would have tried to be more patient with Manny, use the jab effectively and try and cut him off and bully him into the corners as much as possible. Even hold him and hit him whenever possible.
A good fight of reference would have been the way Jose Luis Castillo fought Mayweather the first time or the way John John Molina fought DLH when they fought. Make it a little dirty, a little physical.
Then again, that was my thoughts pre-fight of course..hehe. Now I think very differently.Comment
