Who cares about these alphabet belts. He beat the **** out of Cotto who is a true welterweight and in the top 3 in the weight class.

granted mate, I just hate this website when people start their crap.

It was said before the fight, if Pac won then it was down to the fact that Cotto had to drop to 145.

If Cotto won then it would have been that he was too big and powerful for Pac.

So when Mayweather (147) beat Hatton (145) - was that tainted because Hatton wasn't at the WW limit?

Yeah same here. I'm not discrediting Pac for his win but would 2 pounds make a huge difference? Hell I just want Pac-Mayweather next

this argument doesn't make sense. 147 doesn't mean you have to be exactly 147 for the fight. 147 = the weight LIMIT. you could be 144 and fight as a welterweight. learn boxing. and both parties agreed to the contractual weight.

Okay this **** is getting old. Anything from 0lbs to 147lbs is welterweight. If Cotto weighed in at 145 and Pacquiao weighed 144, the bottom line is that it is a welterweight fight. Is it a light welterweight fight? No because the light welterweight limit is 140lbs. So therefore it is a welterweight catch-weight fight. None of the sanctioning bodies or ring magazine have anything in their rules that says catch weight fights can't be title matches so get over it already people.

Cotto weighed 146 in his last fight, so what is 1lb more? If he didn't like the contract, why did he sign it? They shaved off 2lbs from the contract just to make it a more balanced fight, Manny is the draw and the attraction so he calls the shots. BHop Vs De La Hoya was a catch weight Middleweight fight? No one complained then. BHop didn't complain then, Cotto isn't complaining now and he looked great in the weight in, the fact is both Hopkins and Cotto got their biggest paydays ever fighting at a catch weight so do you think they give a crap? Don't know why everyone is complaining and arguing about it, Cotto and Pacquiao aren't!

This was a great win for Pacquiao and theres no excuses BUT this was not a real welterweight fight, if it was a real welterweight fight then the limit would have been 147 not 145.
but then again. cotto chooses to fight pac at 145 -- it was his free will to fight him at the stipulated weight. beside you saw his physique during weigh-in. he was fresh, strong, and chiseled so i think he was comfortable with the weight
