If Pac loses in a close battle. Pac should stay no1 and be given the benefit of the doubt considering he came up so many weights.

Pac then should be watched closely to see how he performs after the Cotto fight. Because Pac might kick butt, business as usual, even if he were to have a bad night against Cotto.
Everyone is aloud a bad day at the office.

If Cotto wins, he would be without a doubt P4P #1, its a what have you done for me lately ranking, not past achievements

He is the underdog, 3-1 and beat the best dude in the planet...in his prime, no matter how you slice it, Cotto would be the man.

if cotto kills pacman and Kos him, manny shouldnt be number 1 anymore. marquez was number two and floyd beat him. so imo floyd would take the number 1 spot back if manny loses badly if not and cotto wins a tight dicision manny still has p4p top spot

Mayweather would be number one, but I would have Cotto as number personally for the simple fact that he's faced far better competition than Floyd. Floyd might be more talented, but if you're a car designer and you can make something that can compete with a Ferrari but you decide to make something that can compete with a Honda Civic because its easier... you don't deserve to get full credit, Mayweather is in that boat.

I don't think the outcome of this particular fight will change my mind on the P4P ranking in Ring Magazine or among all of Boxing fans around the world

IMO PBF is the P4P best fighter in Boxing. Styles make fights, and it isn't necessarily "If Boxer A beats P4P#1, he becomes P4P#1", because generally P4P greats have proven their ability through numerous weight classes, whereas Cotto really has been JWW/WW for most of his professional career.

I don't consider Cotto a top-P4P fighter, but I consider him in the top 2 or 3 of the WW division.

edit: I don't want to sound like a Cotto hater, he is my favorite fighter right now
I agree, I don't see how a bigger man moves up in rank for beating a smaller, higher ranked fighter. The whole idea of p4p is about skill being more important than size. The way its being judged now is actually penalizing people for pushing themselves by fighting bigger guys and rewarding the bigger guys for taking the fights with a size advantage.

I do disagree with your ranking of Cotto though as he has proven himself to be a top 10 p4p fighter, maybe not top 3 but 4-7 especially if he beats pac.

I want you to name 10 fighters that have fought better competition than Cotto and are active right now. I bet you can't. IMO Cotto is the #1 P4P in the world if he beats Pac, It would be a disgrace to the sport if he's denied that spot considering that aside for a few people mainly PRicans almost everybody is picking Pacquiao to win.
