For those who think Chad Dawson beat Glen Johnson in the first fight........

There have been way worse decisions in boxing. I had the fight a draw. Chad Dawson is gonna win more convincingly this time around. I'll put up all my points against anyone that thinks otherwise.Comment

Hard effective punches is the most important criteria to score a fight. Especially if the guy who landed more punches landed the harder shots to go on top of it. Glen Johnson said from his own mouth that that's a fact. And he offered to switch to a pitty pat boxer to please the judges. Here's how he said it I believe. "Boxing is scored on clean and effective punching. If the rules have changed, then someone needs to tell me so I can change the way I fight to please the judges."Last edited by Iceta; 11-07-2009, 02:18 AM.Comment

Boxing is scored by rounds not punches landed.Should click on the link of the front page that is the Compubox Analysis. The story that talks about the Johnson-Dawson rematch and they refer to the first fight as a gauge to use for this one. This thread isn't directed as animocity toward Chad because Dawson is gonna try to right the wrong this weekend. The purpose of it is to call out his fans who say he deserved the victory in the first fight.
Here is what you should know. Glen Johnson threw less jabs in that fight and landed a significant amount more which in turn set up hard combinations. Out of the jabs that were thrown Dawson landed only 75 and threw 146 more of them than Johnson while Johnson landed 87 which gives him the edge by 12 connects. He also outlanded Dawson 205-194 in power punches. Now those numbers are not a land slide and a lot of people say you shouldn't just go by compubox to determine whether or not a fighter won a fight. But the other criterias of judging a fight favored Johnson by far. He was the aggressor in the fight and he landed the much better punches.
Now ask yourself this guys. If Johnson outlanded Dawson, landed at a higher connect percentage, pressed the action and dictated the pace of the fight, and landed the harder punches, how can you say that Dawson won that fight? And to me, it's not out of the realm to make the 10th round a 10-8 in Johnson's favor because he had Dawson hurt bad and hanging on. Like I said, Dawson has a chance to redeem himself and silence the doubters and that's why I don't want to turn this into a Dawson hate thread. But his fans need to be real and admit that he lost that first fight and got a gift.
Theoretically a guy could land 1000 punches in a round and stack up the punch stats and quadruple his counterpart, but if he lost more than 6 rounds he will still lose the fight.Comment

I see some people have bumped this thread. I'm not hiding from it. Dawson could beat Johnson ten more times and it wouldn't change the fact that Johnson got robbed in the first fight. It had to be a bitter pill for him to swallow when Chad was the one to get those paydays against Tarver.Comment
