I now also know that people respond to thread titles rather than reading the first post.

Jennings was a mere tuneup. Clottey is a badass WW contender. No comparison.

        ^^^ Exactly ^^^

Stop, not sure if u be in the ring b4. But with some guys u can have ur way with them in the ring, and others can take ur best shots.

It makes a HUGE difference on how aggressive u want 2 be.
btw, Clottey is one tuff son of a B***H.

I would luv to 2 c Clottey VS Mayweather. (i guess any WW VS Money May)

Another person that doesn't read my original post. I'm talking about how easily he beat one from the other. I'm talking about his attributes. Like speed and defense. That doesn't change on who you're fighting.

His speed, defense and power were a lot better in the Jennings fight than the Clottey fight.

Maybe it has to due with his trainers? Santiago's first job of training Cotto was for the Clottey fight. Maybe Evangelista was better as the trainer.
Maybe it had to what the big gash above his eye? BTW, nobody looks good against Clottey.

of course it does who you are fighting changes your whole style of how you fight. i was at both of those fights and there was no difference in miguel the only difference is clottey was not backing up like jennings and in turn cotto wasnt allowed to feel comfortable and fight at his own pace his speed amd defense was not different it was the speed and defense of jennings that made the difference. this is the main reason why pac is favored in this fight because many people experts included dont understand as your competition changes and styles of fighters change you can look like a different fighter when in reality the guy you are fighting is just better or poses some problem for you stylisticly that makes you look bad.

When you fight better fights, you normally look worse.

All things considered, Clottey is a much better fighter and Cotto fought with a bad cut for the majority of the fight.

Actually it does. The most basic thing is that you will look faster against someone that is not as fast. Clottey is fast and so Cotto looked like he was punching slower against him, but he wasn't. He was punching the same speed, but it looked slower versus Clottey who is faster than Cotto.

Defense not only changes with fights, depending on who you're fighting, but you can look much more free and relaxed with someone you know cannot do anything back to you. Cotto played with Jennings and he made it look flashy and good, whereas he had to be much more cautious against Clottey because the same defense he used against Jennings would not work against Clottey. If he did use the same defense he would have been plastered even worse than he was.

Things change against different fighters but his 'attributes' were exactly the same. They didn't change between fights. He was just more relaxed and could bounce and move around, dodge slower, more predictable shots easier, use more flashy defense, keep his left low and use his right glove to block shots and just use upper body movement to dodge, duck, slip etc etc against Jennings. He could not do that against Clottey because Clottey can take advantage of that style and bust him up much worse and being a bit faster than Cotto, it also made Cotto look slower than usual, even though he was not.

The opponent really did make all the difference. Nothing changed and no attributes of Cotto were worse or better but they look better, or worse, depending on who you're fighting.

You're missing my point. Look at the attributes shown by Cotto. His speed and defense were better. Opponents don't have much to do with how fast you are or how good your defense is.
I'd look faster running on an open track than a track filled with hurdles.

Fighters like Clottey you're not going to get to display your full array of skills/abilities. You're also ignoring the fact that Cotto fought much of the fight with one eye.
