He gets to make more money that way, even if Martinez loses his excuse will be I'm not a 160 pound fighter. And then he'll move back down protect his belt and I do believe you make more money when you're a belt-holder. Boxing is hilarious because this fight is not even a true fight, its just clearly a business move from both of their perspectives.

hmm that might be possible. as I really thought this whole 147-168 was gonna be Williams new gimmick so to speak.

but Paul hasn't been at Welter since the Quintana rematch .. and he's so tall and big for the division he could have outgrown Welter.

I won't jump to conclusions though .. but it would be good to know.

        anyway.

Maybe Martinez doesn't care about the fight being at 160 because then it will be a non-title fight and he thereby protects his title in the (likely) event of a loss.
exactly. bold we're in agreement . the article says Sergio "didn't have a problem" why would he?

        1. he gets a good fight vs Williams
        and
        2. Doesn't risk his title

I know, I know Martinez holds one of four recognized belts but unless Paul cannot make 154

why not fight for the title?

considering Paul didn't even weigh 160 vs Winky .. I don't see the sense in fighting a 154 titlist at Middle

what a dumb dumb Williams does all this mouthing off about being unable to land a big fight, getting ducked etc

and he's fighting a Super Welterweight at Middleweight ... lol

**I am intrigued to hear more on the issue of WHY 160 vs 154

They offered 150K to Caballero, he didnt wanted, they moved on, simple a that. he is moving up in weight to face the #2 rank FW or the WBO title.

Williams is making Martinez come up in weight, for a non title fight at a weight he hasnt fought in.

People complain far too much. If Martinez is the real deal he will be able to move up 6 lbs, it isn't that big of a deal. Problem is Williams is very skilled and will tax his ass at 54 or 60. Its obvious that Williams will never touch welter and probably isn't going to be fighting at 154 anymore. To much bitching about a few pounds by boxing fans now a days, this is why we need to scrap some of the bs weight divisions. A fights a fight, and Martinez is not on the skill level as a Williams is.

I really would have preferred a fight between two JMW's be at the JMW limit..

Now it's like a Malignaggi - Diaz fight. Fighting just to fight, not to make an impact on their division..

Martinez takes the fight on short notice in exchange for the fight being at 160 instead of 154. That's the story from the PW camp. The weight was Martinez idea.
