I think it's less the 650K than it is the 5 week notice. That is a very short time to get addequate training, sparring and prep time for a Williams fight. Williams needs to give the 12/5 date back to HBO and secure a January or February date for Clottey. If he did that I suspect Clottey would take the 650K.

If Paul Williams postpones the fight date, he will find a different fighter to fight.

He's turning to Clottey out of almost desperation at this point. Clottey should take the fight, he'll not get this chance again, probably

offering his biggest purse to date, is a lowball offer?

seriously, PW is LESS of a name than clottey?

paul williams was scheduled for the MAIN EVENT, clottey was on the UNDERCARD. paul williams was going to get 4-5 X what clottey was getting for his fight.....i'd say double is fair....especially when it's more than you've ever made.

short notice? its the same date....both guys were already training for fights the same date, same card......short notice is b.s.

paul's not going to have a full camp either, and he has to cut extra weight than what he was previously scheduled to....

        no excuses.

there CAN'T be a postponement....HBO won't move the date close to christmas, which is why shane had to wait till january to get his date....clottey knows this, if i do........

if this date gets lost, it won't be rescheduled in december, it'll be in january, and if that's the case, he might as well do the pavlik fight....

team williams is powerless to alter fight dates, clottey knows this....it's his way of saying, "thanks, but no thanks." for the asswhipping

You don't fight the biggest fight of your life with less than 5 weeks of prep time when you are a world class fighter. Williams wouldn't do it....why should Clottey?

This is how the negotiating game is played, Clottey is just trying to squeeze as much money as he can out of this fight because he knows he will probably lose. P-Will did the same thing with Pavlik. I'm sure the fight will end up getting made.

Why should Clottey fight on short notice? Williams is on the same level as Clottey in terms of fame they should be able to work out a fair deal. Damn it seems like the only fear other fighters have for Williams is negotiating a deal to fight him.

world class fighters take chances they may never get again....

i believe v. kilt. took the fightt with lennox lewis on short notice....

you're right, you don't take fights with so little prep time, unless you're A) out of shape or B) not confident in winning...

williams should say **** it, and offer the fight to cintron or somebody else, and clottey can sit on the shelf to march or april of next year, and hope for a fight with somebody like collazo....

Yep, thats part of my point. If he postpones, he just loses the date and has to wait till next year, in which case he won't be fighting Clottey, he'll be fighting someone else.

Well the longer he waits for negotiations to come through, and more money to be offered, the less time he will have to train. He could be training RIGHT now, fly his trainer out in a day.. and just get to work. 5 Weeks isn't great, but its doable.

But it won't be doable if he waits much longer for "negotiations"

Also, a win over Pwill would be huge for Clottey..

Has Clottey ever even been paid more than that?
