Is Bernard Hopkins overrated?

Nope. Here is a post from 2005 full of bhop hate on a different boxing website.
You can search even further back if you wanted to. My quick search reveals that probably 90% of his posts on all boxing related websites are Bernard Hopkins related, and that includes this site. So for the past 4-5 years, 90% of his boxing related talk is b-hop hate! lmao, who hurt you man?!? What did bhop do to you? lmao
wow i'm truly amazed that your life is that dull that you needed to do a google search on me...traced it back to 2005...now i'm really impressed...so now, did your extensive research include what the remaining 10% of my positing consist of?Comment

i'm saying what i've always said...he would have been better served fighting cats his size instead of feasting on weak middleweightsComment

U must be on drugs, his claims are fine, but the poll is F'ed up and any vote is in the starters favor. The opinions are cool the poll is bullhaven't you heard...ANY thread without me is nothing...lol
...i don't consider this a hopkins hate thread...the man stated hopkins is overrated, he gave his factual reasoning as backup, and to put the icing on the cake, has a poll that rules in his favor...i didn't have to say anything but i agree...lol...
again, here is somebody who says hopkins is overrated, backs his claims up, and the only thing hopkins stans can say is this is a hate thread and its biased...wake up....

Hopkins' thing was, he never had any intention of vacating his title unless he had another one in possession. That's what killed HBO's first attempt at a Jones-Hopkins rematch in '96. Both fighters were on board. However, the network got religious and wanted Hopkins to dump his belt BEFORE the fight, to send a message to the alphabets (since it was only a year removed from Oscar and Foreman doing the same).
Hopkins wasn't up for that, at least not without reassurances. HBO only wanted it as a one-time deal, since their interest was only in Roy and not Bernard (at least not at the time).Comment

so say he vacated the middleweight strap and moved up to 168 and beat say carl "the truth" williams or michael nunn...two guys i can think of off the top of my head who were still active, his size and equally talented...i would have gave him a lot of respect...
they way i saw it, he was nobody for years until tito, a big name little guy, moved up and beat some half assed middleweights...
btw...the polls still score in the thread starter's favor...Last edited by djtmal; 10-28-2009, 02:52 PM.Comment

hey man i didn't start the poll...i'm just saying there is 1 yes option and 4 no options....hell how do you account for the second highest scoreComment

Hopkins needs to break the trend of making guys move up out of their natural weight division. That will finally happen when he fights Roy Jones at least even though Roy is shot to ****. I think Hopkins beats Adamek, Cloud, and Dawson as it stands right now, but he's got to do it in order to get credit for it.Comment
