Muhammed Ali was 1/4 Irish, and Mike Tyson was too. George Foreman said about half of his ancestors were white. Joe Louis was part white.
The best white boxer may have been Jim Jeffries, he was old and had previously been retired when he fought Jack Johnson. Prime Jeffries would have beaten prime Johnson.
Greb, Tunney, Marciano (very overrated) and Pep were among the best.
And I think Vitali would hold his own with any heavyweight in history.
Historically the best boxers have been men of mixed African-American and white (Ali, Tyson, Louis, etc). They seem to be on average more athletic than either whites or Africans.
As long as it isnt turned into a serious and ugly racial discussion that gets out of control...I dont think there is any dispute with WILLIE PEP being the best...looking at his record it is very possible to name him as the best boxer EVER of ALL boxers (Sugar Ray Robinson said so, too)...
Why does the whites have to be pure nordic european types and not include southern europeans and their descendants in America? No one demands that the African Americans have a pure African lineage to be considered Black?
I think the races should just be the main categorys: White, Black, Yellow?
