Id lean towards Floyd, but I think either would beat one another if they fought more than once. Pernell doesnt look his best when he comes forward as opposed to going backwards. I know he was past it somewhat against Hurtado, but he was outboxed, not sure why he insisted on coming forward in that fight.

Whitaker was washed up at the time. He fought the way he did because he couldn't beat a rangy opponent like Hurtado otherwise. Eventually Whitaker caught him but he was made to look bad in the process.

Other than that, Whitaker was actually pretty damn good at pressing the fight. He could really work over opponents from a close distance, making punches miss by inches, and handed out quite a few body beatings like I've never seen Mayweather do.

The problem is that a lot of people watch Whitaker's later fights and think he was never that good. He was still good at that point but he was great 10 years earlier which can be a long time.

Now Mayweather is not much younger than Whitaker was at the time he started slipping but then again Mayweather has never gotten into the bad habits Whitaker did. I'm not going to make any excuses for him, it's just the truth.

Whitaker was still good later on, although he was doing *******. It's a good excuse GreatA but also, Whitaker didn't have the kind of hand problems Mayweather had either

True. But boy, did Whitaker accomplish a whole lot before he got there. A toast that '84 Olympic team and Main Events as well.

Actually he did. I believe he broke his hands in the first Ramirez, Anthony Jonez and Rafael Williams fights. He also injured his hands out of the ring quite a few times.

Whitaker's work rate were good in those bouts. Didn't see Whitaker vs. Rafael Williams, External is too stacked. Anyway, I do remember hearing about Whitaker's hand problems but he still threw, I wouldn't say it was in that level of Mayweather's hand problems. Watching the JLR bout, Ramirez got outboxed and I had a really hard time giving JLR a round from what I remember. Whitaker threw alot but he didn't go in as he did in the rematch.

Still, Mayweather could have knocked Chop Chop out but, stopped using the right in the 7th and 8th round, can't remember too well. I remember Chop Chop giving Mayweather a look (Commentators mentioned this also) think Merchant said, "Corley gave Mayweather a look as if to say, those aren't the right hands I was getting hit with early on". Messed up his right hand against Augustus but stopped him on a series of lefts. Can't remember which hand he messed up against Carlos Hernandez but that performance was godawful anyway, he wen't down in pain. We all saw Mayweather vs. Carlos Baldomir, stopped using the right also.

Chop Chop made Floyd fight, something we don't see often. Floyd might've hurt his hand in doing so; would be interesting to see if they (and he) would hold up in a sustained, action bout.

People often under-estimate just how tough Whitaker was. Did you know he fought with a broken jaw against Trinidad?

He didn't just hurt his hands in those fights, he broke his hands.
