Never mention how close Whitaker vs. McGirt 1 was.
It was a close fight and McGirt was a very, very good fighter, the linear welterweight champion at the time, and certainly no Baldomir at that. I thought Whitaker pretty much shut him out in the rematch, not on the scorecards but effectively in the fight.

be honest whitaker was gettin his ass whooped b4 the knock out, the reason he was ahead on the scorecard was becasue if he won that fight hed be fighting de la hoya next and that was a future mega fight.the reason he won is because he is a true champion and true champions always find a way to win.

McGirt had really good hand speed, power, chin, well rounded, I feel he is underrated man.

Correct me if I'm wrong, I can't remember too well, wasn't it Whitaker who said he felt like he was being hit with a rock?
That was Joppy. The fight just before the Hopkins bout. He said he had never felt anything like that and that it didn't feel right. Not just huge, incredible power but different. Interesting. He also didn't say it after Tito got caught but before it.

Whitaker was 5'5-5'6 compared to Hurtado who was 6 feet tall and a very well-schooled boxer, is it a surprise he tried to pressure him?
Harold Brazier was one of the best fighters to never win a title ever. That guy was a defensive monster himself who had amazing counter punching etc etc. Fast.

He would have been past it somewhat by the Whitaker fight I think...Or maybe not. I can't really remember when his prime was now.

Anyway, if someone shuts out Brazier, it's an incredible feat. He was really damn good and hardly anyone knows about him.

Fought goddamned everyone and ended up with a crazy record of 130-15 or something. He was great and a beautiful fighter to watch go to work.

the difference between pernell and floyd is that pernell fought the toughest fighters out there.. mayweather doesn't so looks more impressive but because his opposition isn't as good. whittaker is a better all around fighter then mayweather too.. whittaker was great on the offense where as mayweather is nothing but defense.

You mean literally or that he was beating him but still behind on the cards? He was quite far behind on all but one of the cards. He still would have lost a MD even if he had won the next two rounds I think.

Very true, so Joppy said he felt like he was being hit with a rock? I clearly remember someone saying that.
