I'm quite enjoying disagreeing with you in a respectful and logical way.
Okay, let's unpack this. First off, let me be clear I do not want this 'fight' (would it even be a full fight?) to happen. I have a strong filter for internet grifters and I am quite proud of the fact I've only heard JP speak once and never seen him fight.
From AJ's point of view, maybe a year away from the ring following a hurtful defeat at the late stage of his career has given him a new perspective. Getting punched in the face in pursuit of 'undisputed' might no longer seem important, especially given the unlikelihood of him achieving it. He seems like quite a philosophical person and with money in the bank and his life ahead of him, maybe he doesn't want to risk getting knocked out again.
The demographic who will pay for this farce are unlikely to think about such abstract concepts as boxing legacy, they just see the names and tune in (I'm over simplifying but hopefully you take my point). As for us fans who do consider such things, I think it's clear where AJ is: well below Lennox Lewis and somewhere above Bruno and Haye (at heavyweight). He was never the true heavyweight champion but was involved in a true classic (against Wlad) and became a household name.
Knocking out JP for money won't negatively impact this.
I suppose where we disagree is that I still think he can achieve something in the ring. If he could become a 3 time titlist (I agree his aim of undisputed couldn't be less likely) then that's a very significant career over a long period.
If he doesn't even try then you end his top level career with the Usyk defeats.😎 1Comment

Nah, some people actually do consider the principle of a given subject and don't budge for any amount of money. You're assuming that Paul hasn't named Ngannou's price, but you don't know that there is one that would make him bite. Until I see him bite, I'll take him at his word that he's not interested, no matter the offer.Last edited by SUBZER0ED; 11-14-2025, 01:50 PM.Comment

You didn't mention AJ's latest defeat by Dubois. That was more defining than both defeats by Usyk combined.

I didn't, because if you end his career at the Usyk fights, then Dubois came later.
I'm saying that run of fights from Franklin to Dubois was irrelevant. His career was done. It peaked, plateaued, and then was ended by Usyk.
Mind you, I've just heard Hearn describe the offer from Paul as being a career high payday. Maybe that is hard to turn down.Last edited by Toffee; 11-14-2025, 02:21 PM.Comment

This is Francis we're talking about here. It's always about the money. He even noped out of UFC over it.
