He lost to Roach and absolutely ducked a rematch. That's how I'll choose to remember him.
Assessing Gervonta Davis' career if he retires after fighting Jake Paul

If you go by TBRB, Frank Martin at #5 is his only true top 5 win I think. TBRB hasn't updated their archives since 2023 so I'm going on memory here but I think that's it.
Ryan Garcia was #3 at lightweight at the time they fought, but the fight took place at a catchweight above the limit so that's pretty dubious.
Before that it was Jose Pedraza at #7.Last edited by famicommander; 09-30-2025, 10:28 PM.Comment

i thought very highly of him when he defeated pedraza and an undefeated mandatory on the road. that's very good for a young fighter. then he started to miss weight, act like a thug, make fights i didn't want and i was no longer a fan. if he doesn't want roach or shakur, he better retire. i don't want him in any other fight.Comment

I'd rate him 5. As someone who lives outside the US I never got swept along with the hype. He had big name backing early and was supposed to look the part with his designer clothes, shades, tattoos and ***ellery but his tangible boxing career has been mediocre. Inactive, never establishing himself as divisional #1, my favourite moment of his career was the LSC knockout five years ago.Comment

Some people are in it for the money, which isn't inherently bad...
Don't GAF about a "legacy"
Would be my assessment

He will be forgotten very quickly.
He made good money, but he's not a star, his resume is poor and nobody will be vocal about him when he's gone.
On the flip side, if he leaves with his faculties intact, that's important for a boxer.
As long as he doesn't do something ****** (which is difficult for him), he and his family should be fine for this and the next generation and that's all that really matters in life.Comment

tank is just a character, not an all time great or hofer. he will be remembered for something but not his greatness.Comment

I don't get how he's a cash cow when he's terrible at promoting his fights. He has no personality. Really might be a worse cash cow than Canelo. Also he's kinda boring as a boxer. Even though he has power he has a really low punch output.👍 2Comment

Made a lot of money? He barely just started making good money, the Jake Paul fight being his biggest purse, so if he quits now, I wouldn't say he's a guy who made a lot of money.Comment
