What's interesting to me is the Boogeyman Effect wherein a somewhat obscure but legit fighter destroys a name opponent and is then anointed with a Monster Of The Division mystique. Murtazaliev (Tzsyu) and Bakole (Big Baby) are the most recent examples that come to mind. And I fall for it, too. I think it speaks to a visceral boxing fan's desire for a generational KO artist to start tearing through all his opponents and, in the process, undo years of constant disappointments the sport seems to heap on us in almost every way.Comment

Nice breakdown of the two fighters. It was absolutely brilliant and I totally agree..
While Lubin has fought at the 154 lbs weight division for his entire career; It doesn’t necessarily mean that he is naturally larger of the two fighters.
At 147; Ortiz was mowing through everyone. I get it that he has stepped up his level of opposition at 154 but a fighter typically brings their power up with them.
So far he hasn’t shown that he has. His punches just seem to lack the same amount of snap, pop and steam on them as they did at 147.
Which was the reason why I believe he struggled with Serhii Bohachuk. Since when have we seen Vergil Ortiz ever fighting off the back foot at 147?
The answer is never because he was always the naturally larger and stronger man. I don’t know about this fight. It’s still a catch 22 for me. I think it’s still a 50/50 fight.
Where we both have to agree is that they are both ducking Bakhram Murtazaliev. Also, Ortiz has never challenged for a world championship title for his entire career and I just wonder why?
But, I can't agree they're both ducking Murtazaliev. I think the term duck gets thrown around too much. Certainly, ducking happens (Canelo ducked Benavidez), but I think there are legit reasons Ortiz and Lubin haven't fought Bakhram. I believe Lubin would have fought him next had he not gotten a better offer. I will say that I don't know what strategy Ortiz's team has for getting him fights.Comment

For me, I like Thurman's fighting style and skills and he's always in entertaining scraps.Comment

Ortiz's team claims they don't want to have to adhere to the IBF's 10 lb rehydration clause (being that Murtazaliev has the IBF belt, they would have to). I know that's an issue for a lot of fighters, but I think it's more believable for Ortiz who had health problems due to weight cutting for the couple planned fights with Stanionis.Comment

Floyd chose not to fight Keith, not the other way around. I was surprised Keith got beat by PacMan. It was a really close fight though. PacMan jumped in the fountain of youth before that fight! If Thurman didn't get that off balance knock-down in round 1 he would have kept the belt (MD). And he would have fought Spence had he not lost to PacMan. That was the plan. As for Bud, Haymon kept all the fights within PBC for as long as he could.
For me, I like Thurman's fighting style and skills and he's always in entertaining scraps.

Is Spence's legacy trash, too? Didn't fight Floyd or PacMan (scheduled to, but didn't). Fought Bud. Got destroyed.
Is Crawford's WW legacy trash, too? Didn't fight Floyd or PacMan.
Btw, who is the 4th "best WW of his generation?" he missed out on? Top 4 would include Thurman (unified titlist), so he can't fight himself.Comment
