Comments Thread For: Oleksandr Usyk seeks extension as deadline looms for ordered Joseph Parker fight

Joseph Parker will have to wait a little longer for his long overdue shot at the heavyweight crown. Just how long will soon be determined by the sanctioning body who originally attempted to advance that timeline.?

Well, it's a good sign that he didn't just drop the belt at least. Hopefully Usyk comes to the table and makes the fight soon.

Usyk is unlikely to face Parker, unless he cannot find a more lucrative fight.

I do not understand the demand for delay in negotiations...I mean, if Usyk is injured, I can understand Usyk wanting a delay in the timeline for the fight to take place, but why ask for a delay in the negotiations timeline? Team Usyk and Queensberry are not negotiating, so it is clear what the intentions are. Best to vacate that belt so that the division is not held hostage. Parker must fight the winner of Moses-Whyte for the belt.

Similarly, the other belts should also go ahead and announce their fights.

It's kind of win-win for both fighters if this fight doesn't happen.

Parker will fight someone else for the title. It improves his chances of becoming a titlist.

Then they can fight for maximum value.

When it makes that much sense it's hard to see the fight happening.

Usyk has nothing left to prove. Hang them up while you're on top.

Hmmmm how convenient for Usyk to suddenly have an injury when the prospect of having to face Parker was fast closing in.
So he pleads an extension which will give him an open door to explore other options.
Excuse me if I just find the timing suspect .

Fight Parker or Kabayel or retire.

I have a feeling that Usyk is not too excited about fighting Parker. If I was him I would explore other options or retire. Nothing left to prove.

Guess I am in the minority, but I am actually very interested in an Usyk-Parker undisputed fight. Parker has earned it, and he is a different style of fighter. Usyk has not fought someone like Parker since the CW days of old. But Usyk has the chips all stacked up on his side of the table, and if he feels he only has a couple of fights left in him than I get it. Drop the belt, fight who you want.

But I would really be excited for this. I am cheering for it to happen even if no one else but me has the pom-poms out.
