    What's your argument?

That boxing isn't as popular as basketball?

Well DUH, we already knew that. That's not the argument.

The argument is whether boxers who have Olympic backgrounds are on average more well-known than those that don't & fact is, that The Olympics gave Claressa Shields a leg up on every other women's boxer (not named Laila Ali) in American boxing.

You're the one being ignorant or disingenuous by completely creating a strawman argument

    I'm comparing boxers to boxers

You're bringing basketball players in here as if basketball has anything to do with this argument.

Claressa Shields as an OLYMPIAN had more hype coming into her career than any American woman in history, who didn't have the world's most famous athlete as her father

Shakur Stevenson had more hype coming into his career than 90% of American boxers because people had watched him (crying) on The Olympics.

Even Keyshawn Davis got some notoriety for having Snoop Dogg & Kevin Hart making fun of him at The Olympics.
Dude Ryan Garcia got no bronze medal and is well more well known to the AVERAGE American than Stevenson or Shields.

Americans dont care about Olympic boxing. They dont even care about boxing.

The average American doesn't know Claressa Shields.

lets start. Where do you live ? I will do you like raw. Where do you live. I will disprove you right here. I lived in over 8 states and been to over 6 countries. Let me know what state you live and I will start here.

Ali was famous during the pinnacle of boxing. This trend has no reference to his era since now we have the emergence of the NFL which takes the most of the best talent of the large men that would had been heavyweight boxers.

Boxing used to be the poor man's sport. It lost its identity. Thats what made boxing popular. So instead of argumening with me. the average American dont know keyshawn Davis lol. Come on man you sound crazy or live in a bubble.

We agree that basketball players are more exposed to the youth.

Nobody's denying basketball is more popular than boxing.

My argument is that The Olympics is the biggest sporting event in the world & has shown to make stars out of stars before they ever step into a ring.

Stevenson had Bob Arum, James Prince, & Andre Ward trying to make him a star from before his first fight. His first fight was on a stacked Top Rank card.

He was fighting in MSG on Terence Crawford cards in his first year as a pro

You don't think the fact he was in The Olympics is partially responsible for the big contract & connections he had coming into his career that most fighters could only dream of coming into the game???

Dude, what the hell are you talking about?

Ryan Garcia is not the average boxer

For the AVERAGE BOXER, being an Olympic medalist means you're going to sign a larger contract & get more hype than somebody who doesn't.

Unless you're a social media star, like "King Ry", The Olympics is still better than nothing.

And again, Claressa Shields is more well known than any other American female in boxing history, who's father wasn't Muhammad Ali.

She just had a theatric movie made about her life.

She's on the biggest radio show in America

Does the average person know what "Good Morning America" is?

IF her being an Olympian didn't make that possible, then what did?

I am not going to lie to you to you. You can take this as a concern, hating or pure honesty. I can only name 5 female boxers if you put a G4n to my head. Now if you put a g4n to my mommas head and ask me to name three people on shields resume my mom would he d3ad. Now I am a registered member on boxing scene. I highly doubt the average non boxing fan would know that answer either. Now plot twist. I probably could name 5 female ufc fighters. Women's combat sports aint a big draw but women's boxing is a joke.

I honestly couldn't name 5 Olympic gold boxing medalist America had in the last 10 years. I doubt the average American can. I cant even name who won golden gloves in NY for any weight class. I really cant. I am being dead serious.

Either you are a boxing ameture nerd or I am lost in the sauce but I think we are in the middle like I stated for the 100th time. Most Americans (average Americans) does not follow ameture boxing.

Bob Arum is old school. Hes not even the top promoter anymore. Hes cut from that old cloth. These new boxers dont even have high Olympic pedigrees in America no more. Crawford isnt even a Olympian..

I am dead serious. I haven't heard anyone talk about golden gloves or olympic boxing in a barbershop since maybe Ridd1ck Bowe. But once again thats a heavyweight and Bowe was born probably watching Ali and Larry Holmes. By then NFL took over America so that generation born in the 80s didn't produce a real legit American heavyweight champion ( unless you want to count deontay but he started out playing other sports).

The breakfast club is the most syndicated radio show. That doesn't make it the biggest. The breakfast club caters to one type of demographic if you pull their numbers.

Good morning America is a good start. Her being Olympian probably helped her but the average American aint watching women's Olympic boxing. They watching Gabby , Sharcarrie Richardson and swimming. Those sports dominant in the olympics not boxing. I dont know even know who she beat to win gold.

I did watch this years olympics womens boxing due to the scandals with that Transformer.

Dude, you're totally over thinking this.

Is Claressa Shields on "Good Morning America", "The Breakfast Club", is she dating the rapper she is, is she nominated for BET's "Athlete of the Year" if she's not an Olympian first.

              The obvious answer is NO.

The average person doesn't have to know who she is or who her opponents are

The only argument is that she is more famous than she WOULD BE had she not been in The Olympics, which is obviously true.

Her father was not Muhammad Ali or somebody famous, so the only way she would've ever gotten to that level of fame is by being an Olympic hero, first.

That allowed her to get what promotion she got, which is why she's making millions, now.

I dont watch Olympic boxing lol. Claressa Shields is honestly popular because shes a good looking boxer. Just like Alycia Baumgardner who has 711k Instagram followers. Claressa only has 1.5 followers with all of her accolades and I bet she got alot of new followers since dating papoose. Stevenson has 1 million. So all three are all averaging around the same number.

This trend is about bringing boxing back to its average American popularity and that has to start with the youth not with these current fighters. We need local fighters and honestly we need more competitive white fighters. Thats really my topic.

I dont watch Olympic boxing. You cant prove or disprove your theory. Shes a good looking women that fights and shes a champion as pro thats more than enough to make good morning America. I dont even watch good morning America.

For your Argument ok. Fine it helped her.

Now how does this help american boxing today when most people do not watch pro boxing let alone ameture boxing?
