Jim Lampley is 76 years old. I still like seeing Michael Buffer too but he isn’t the same as he was 30 years ago.
I'm sorry... Jim lampley is well past it.

Why do I always see these types of threads?
Why do people cry so damn much about the ringside commentating? Who really GAF? I for one don't watch alone. People around had to converse with one another. There's no quiet moment here. It's sports.
Who GAF what these commentators say? Of course, they have biases, they have opinions. What exactly do you expect? They're humans. I see what they see, I watch what they watch, so at the end of the day it's me who would decide what conclusion I come up with. Not them.Comment

Yes Larry Merchant and Emanuel Steward were the reasons why HBO Boxing telecasts were so excellent. They kept it real. Lampley and Kellerman just rode their coattails and brought nothing to the show. It was LM and ES who carried the broadcastsComment

The “King of New York” got smoked, I don’t usually watch pressers but caught this one. I was neutral towards either fighter, but as soon as Berlanga opened his pie hole…I was hoping Sheeraz would wallop him. Berlanga’s 17 straight 1st round KO’s are looking mighty su****ious, likely setup to move him up the ranks quickly for a title shot…and it worked out, minus a world title.
When confronted with a legit quality opponent…he’s bollocks mate. If he spent as much time in the gym as he does talking ****, he might be able to actually win a beltComment

I didn't mind him but I overall thought they were missing a lot of the action in the main event. They went on side bar stories when there was good action to cover happening and that pissed me off. It wasn't Lampley alone, it was the entire team.Comment

Did tarver really have to say You feel me to lamp?Jim will get his sea legs back I'm sure. At least the fighters came through this time and gave him some good fights to call, unlike Times Square.
I like Tarver but seemed like he was talking a lot, stepping all over the place, in the heat of things calling Lampley "bro" a couple of times lol.
Also Coppinger is pretty good, but I'd say maybe try to limit talking about outside events in boxing during any given fight, it can derail things and doesn't bring the fight we're watching in focus.
It's a new team.Comment

Lampley: “Berlanga…derisively called ‘BELNALGAS’…has NOT looked good in his recent outings. However, if being around the sport for so long has taught me something, it is that you embrace the villain role long enough, you will draw attention to yourself, and more often than not, that will translate into more exposure and often times, more butts in seats.”
Maliganggi: “Yo, speaking of butts in seats. Jim, do you know what ‘BELNALGAS’ means?”
Lampley: “I, uhhhhhh…no, Paulie. I do not. Enlighten me.”
Maliganggi: “Okay, even though I’m hearing ‘BELNALGAS’ with a ‘B’, I think what they’re saying is essentially ‘VERNALGAS’ with a ‘V’.”
Lampley: “Ah………..what’s the difference?”
Malignaggi: “It means ‘see butts’. I dunno what kind of insult that is. It’s not even witty. I think it’s just white people trying to flex what little Spanish they know. I dunno. Or they mean to say his skills are ‘like ass’.”
Lampley: “Oh……..ok…? Paulie, how do you know all this?”
Malignaggi: “Because I’m trilingual.”
Lampley: “What does that mean exactly?”
Malignaggi: “I know three languages. I know English, Italian, and Spanish. Why? What did you think it meant?”
Lampley: “I, ughhh…I thought it meant that you’re the type of person who’s willing to try anything once.”
Malignaggi: “…………”
Lampley: “Sort of like when you let Adrien Broner try your girl one night?”
Malignaggi: “That’s my side piece! Don’t you dare talk about my side piece!”Last edited by TintaBoricua; 07-14-2025, 10:23 AM.Comment
