Boxing is in a horrible state right now therefore there can be no good voices or analysts or commentators. The sport is so corrupt everyone has to cover for it and play along with the charades. Canelo is nothing. Fatso Fury is a non stop lying duck. Tank is nothing. Mayweather never was anything but a protected pretender with a big mouth. The sport is in ruins save for Crawford and Usyk and Inoue and a few other saviors. Lampley is a voice of the past but offers nothing but a memorable voice. Nobody can dare speak the truth that boxing is in ruins or they will be blackballed.

I listened to the entire podcast episode of him with Joe Rogan last week. He’s still a great voice and can paint a beautiful picture when he describes things, but there were more than a couple of instances where he described past fights or results and had them wrong. I can’t recall what they were, though. I’d have to sift through the episode to find the inaccuracies.

To be a little fair to Jim, he has been out of the commentating game for a while.
I'm sure the commentary setup and presentation has changed in the past decade so he is going to need to get back in the groove of things and used to being in the live atmosphere again.
What DAZN needs to do is just get rid of Chris Mannix all together. I have no clue how they decided he was the right man for the job. Mora is awful as well but he at least has a brain.

Mora talks too much for special comments, waffles on, I like him and mannix on the pod but. Lampleys head ain’t in the game anymore, Barry Jones and Frampton are decent.

Said Canelo is "the most skilled fighter in boxing"
Didn't know who Usyk is fighting next week or that he was fighting
Asked tarver if growing a beard helps you take punches
Thought round 3 was round 2 and forgot a round had happened
And this was only in the Sheeraz fight, I didn't watch the rest of the card.

Jim will get his sea legs back I'm sure. At least the fighters came through this time and gave him some good fights to call, unlike Times Square.
I like Tarver but seemed like he was talking a lot, stepping all over the place, in the heat of things calling Lampley "bro" a couple of times lol.
Also Coppinger is pretty good, but I'd say maybe try to limit talking about outside events in boxing during any given fight, it can derail things and doesn't bring the fight we're watching in focus.
It's a new team.Last edited by LA_2_Vegas; 07-13-2025, 06:23 PM.
