Wilder is shot in every sense. I don't think he has a chin to take anything at this point. I know it's heavyweight and almost any punch can potentially KO you, but there is a thing of punch resistance to at least nullify some of the lighter thrown shots and I don't think Wilder even has that.

With his chin gone and his inability to pull the trigger, he's pretty much easy pickings for anyone that faces him.

You're probably right. The human body ages and dies. Contact sports don't help.

”To these eyes, Wilder wasn’t a substantially worse fighter in those last two defeats. His defense was lousy – nothing new there – his offense looked more or less the same as always, just without a decisive punch ever finding the target.”

Exactly. If Wilder fought Zhang and Parker in 2018 the result would have been the same. One dimensional and overrated. He just never fought top fighters and that was smart. So many fans still buy into his nonsense. Till this day.

If people buy into the nonsense then that's on them.

What I will say is that Wilder massively overachieved with just a couple of decent attributes. A guy of his talent shouldn't have been anywhere near the top two conversation, yet he rattled up title fights and millions of dollars.

The very best work in his career was by his handlers, but you can't deny that he knocked some half decent fighters out.

If you disregard the fact that he held a title and just look at his resume, then you'd still have to rate him top 5 or so in that period. That's a hell of an achievement for a fighter like him. He had something.

Just from the number of comments on this boxing fan forum shows, Wilder still has cache' attached to his name. All he needs is two things to happen on Saturday: One fight against a club level boxer and one punch to level said boxer. Than he will be free to sign a bigger fight. He still moves the needle.

Yes, he is shot. The reflexes are slower and the natural athletic ability that made the guy so freaking awkward in the ring has nearly disappeared. Without those 2 attributes, whatever chance his power gave him against elite level fighters is also gone. But he can milk his name and image for one more payday.

I think that Wilder is shot. His boxing skills were non existent from the beginning, hence the name "windmill" and his power and careful matchmaking is what made him who he is. He has been exposed in his last several fights. All trainers have to do is teach their fighters to avoid his right hand and they get an easy win. Simple as that. He is fighting tomorrow so he has to sell the fight and make money.

I don’t think he overachieved. He just achieved without over or under due to careful and selective matchmaking. His strategy of avoiding top fighters paid off and people somehow thought that bcs he could KO no-hopers that he would also be able to KO top names. As soon as he fought top10 fighters he got 4 losses. His top wins are Ortiz and Helenius. He has size, reach and power. That combined with easy opposition he was destined to achieve what he did, even if his Ortiz win was razor thin. That’s why he was managed the way he was managed. None of the guys he knocked out were decent. You can perhaps say he knocked out guys who used to be decent at some point earlier in their careers before facing Wilder. The only top opponents he faced were Fury, Zhang and Parker.

Wilder was in talks of the top names because he could get away with beating Washingtons and Szpilkas while talking about beating top names. This is just because most ppl DKSAB. Howeve, eventually we saw that talking about beating top names turned out to be much easier than actually beating the top names. Shocking as it was to some.
