Jirov and Toney were not all hugging up on each other like an ****** **** flick.Originally posted by oldgringoHis performance "******" against Jirov? Toney fights on the inside as well as anybody...
I don't know how he'll fare against Huggy Bears hugging...but then again nobody does.
Jirov really didnt smother Toney's shots nor was he pressing up against him. Jirov kept a far enough distance for Toney and him to throw with distance and Toney looked good at it.
****ing Ruiz fights you in a god damn phone booth the whole damn night. Which wont be good for Toney as he wont be able to pull his slick rolling the hits off of his shoulder in that fight.
Im not taking anything away from Toney ok maybe a little bit, he is a tremendous boxer who is one if not the best counter puncher in the sport and with his not to shabby hand speed either he gets my nod.
But he wont be able to do that stuff that makes him so great when he is in their with a fighter of Ruiz style (YES HUGGING). I have always said it and will continue to say it, to beat Ruiz you have to have KO power (which Toney DOESNT possess) or you have to be quick on your feet (which Toney ISNT)Comment

Hey spinxs, there is a new video on **********, it is a sparring session between Chris Bryd and Malcom Tann, if you can post it I'll give you a million points.Originally posted by spinksjinxWhile it was close, Ray schooled Hagler.
HE BOXED HAGLER
What sport we talking about?
And on the Toney Green thing, nobody said that Toney moved well against Green. He was fat and out of shape, plus a heavweight and he has never been a mover. But against punches from Green there was no reason for him to move, especially with headgear.Comment

Point taken, but I like the fact that you lay out Toneys main weakness. Which surely will play an effect on him at the HW division.Comment

I'd definitely call what Jirov and Toney were doing in the second half of the fight "fighting in a phonebooth". Jirov attempted one of the most relentless pressure assault against another fighter that I've ever seen. Each guy didn't throw over 1000 punches by fighting at a cushy distance. They were inside, ****ing away at each other for the majority of the fight...case and point, the 12th round of the fight...
I agree that Ruiz' hugging is pretty gay, and that its effective. Every fighter reacts differently however and who knows what Toney will do. Outside of the hugging, Ruiz usually gives space to throw punches freely until he hugs you again from what I've seen of him.Comment

What fight, besides the Ruiz fight, would possibly call for him to become a mover or have moving ability, in the HW division?Originally posted by spinksjinxPoint taken, but I like the fact that you lay out Toneys main weakness. Which surely will play an effect on him at the HW division.Comment

You made good points too, the only thing I had a problem with was saying that Green won the sparring match. I love the James Toney and might be his biggest fan, but I agree some people take **** too far with him.
If you are a Toney fan it should be because he was a hall of fame middleweight who saw that the heavyweight divison was sooo bad that he thought he could step in. So far he has done well, and for a fighter who doesn't depend on amazing physical gifts like Roy Jones, that is amazing.
If he beats Ruiz it will be one of the greatest feats accomplished in boxing, not something that people should expect will probably happen.
Toney is old, fat, and depending on oldschool boxing smarts and toughness. If he beats Ruiz it is twice the accomplishment of Roy Jones who is a P4P legend.
People should stop talking about how great Toney is, and start talking about how great it is that he is even trying to take out a heavyweight champion like Ruiz.
If Mike Tyson used what God gave him half as well as James Toney he would be heavyweight champ today.Comment
