    hmm

Anyone who thinks the Jirov-Toney fight was anything other than a close fight in which the judges scores were not very accurate, has an opinion that I personally have very little understanding of. Toney landed clean shots and so did Jirov, many of them. That's what made it such a great fight. If it was such a blowout it would not have been considered the greatest fight, or one of them, at cruiserweight of all time.

The knockdown did not even seal it for Toney...and I was rooting for Toney big time. I could have seen it scored a draw even with the knockdown. Let me emphasize again that I was rooting for Toney and was yelling for him to "knock him (Jirov) the **** out!"

That fight was close and both men were hurt at different periods. I've watched the fight many times and there is one shot in particular that really hurt Toney to the body.

Don't degrade Jirov by saying he got blew out or took a one-sided beating because it just is not true, period.

body shot was in round 2. toney takes 3 or 4 steps back (towards camera, HBO telecast)

jirov should have loaded up BIG at that point.

Who is degrading Jirov or belittling him? I scored the fight 6-4-1 for Toney going into the 12th with a couple rounds that were extremely hard to score. Then Toney won the 12th with the KD and I had it 7-4-1 for Toney. It was definitely a close fight with both guys giving it everything they had. It's one of my favorite all-time fights. Jirov won my respect in that fight and it was really the fight that got me back into boxing. But the fact is that James could have gone another 1/3/5 rounds and had Jirov tried he would have been knocked out. If taking a few steps back because you felt a good bodyshot is hurt then yeah maybe he was, but he never in any serious trouble at any point in the fight.

                hmm

I absolutelty agree that had the fight gone on Jirov wold have been KO'd.

I wholeheartedly disagree with the ones who were saying the fight was a blow out or a one-sided beating, and if you were one of those people, in my opinion, you were wrong.

I disagree with those people too. My stance on the whole fight was that Jirov put on a hell of a performance, against one of the most naturally talented boxers ever, but James knew what was gonna happen the entire time. It was pretty incredible since Jirov was THE man at cruiser. I thought it was a close fight but James was just on a different level.

                  I wonder who'd win a "prime" cruiser Jirov/Braithwaite fight.

Why would Toney ever want to spar w/ Rahman who is a potential opponent. Last thing James wants is someone to feel out his style especially w/ his subpar heavyweight punch. James win by virtue that he's 2 stubborn to go down to the likes of Hassim and Rahman tires himself out. Toney outwrks Ruiz in a boring fight
