In fairness, that would be 203ib which is above Cruiserweight &, an oddly specific weight around Cruiserweight, so, no he wouldn’t be remotely competitive v like, Chris Billam-Smith or Lawrence Okolie. BUT, you are right that he isn’t that competitive at 10 stone 7 either. He looked, TBH, tired & a bit fed up in there. Part of it, though, was how Essumann was ridiculously sharp & just **** on the money from first bell of R1 to last bell of R12. I’ve always liked & admired Essumann & you can check my history on that, but tonight, really, he brought it. I didn’t think he would be good enough to beat Taylor but I’m delighted to be proved wrong.

When the idea is to pick an opponent you are supposed to beat to help get your sea legs back, you need to watch out that the opponent understands the assignment. Seems Essumen did not get the memo.

LOL I thought I heard one of the announcers say 14 stone 7 but, yeah, the stones thing eludes me. Musta been that Barry Whatshisname, the short bald dude I can barely understand.
For the record, I do know that the Welterweight limit is 147 pounds.

Smith signs to Matchroom and Taylor to Queensberry. You can understand as both sell out big arenas when in top fights but what now for both.

You could question the matchmaking in both fights and there'a a reason fighters campaign at the weight they do but I just don't see the obvious fights back for either of them.

Real shame as there were big fights available for both and they both have enough of a profile to generate interest.

Taylor at least wasn't outclassed and Ekow would give anyone a hard fight. But he needs a win before being put in with anyone competitive which means a big step down. Smith just looked out of his depth but again maybe McKenna was all wrong for him. Maybe Josh Kelly is still an.option?

Taylor should call it a day. There's been a decline since the first catteral fight. He's had a really good career achieved big things but at 34 and the injurys he's had through training camps he just isn't the right he was 4-5 years ago.

After the loooong layoff, Tayor was done. There a handful of fighters in the history of boxing that have picked off where they left after such long inactivity.

Taylor had a better career than I thought possible, he's never been a guy with undisputed champion level talent imo, but he has that accolade.
