What would a win mean for Pacquiao?

He didn’t win that title in the 2020’s. Nobody has ever won world titles in 4 different decades to my knowledge.
He already is acclaimed as the only 4 decade champ, since he was still champ in the 2020's, albeit briefly. The WBC being what they are, might let him drag out his title with no or very weak defenses until it gets into the 2030's. And he's already the only 8 division world champ that likely will ever be.Comment

I don’t particularly rate Barrios either but the accomplishment would stand up historically.
Donny Lalonde was no great shake but that win still holds up for Leonard IMO. I put it more in that category than Foreman-Moorer.

The Lalonde fight 2 weight class BS is what makes that stand up imo.
Frankly, the BS draw he got in the next fight against Hearns is more memorable.
Lalonde is sandwiched between hagler and Hearn rematch so that is understandable it’s forgotten.Comment

Boots and Barrios are TBRB #1 and # 2 respectively with the championship vacant. It's a weak division.
It will be a respectable win if Pacquiao pulls it off, nothing more, nothing less.
George winning the true world heavyweight championship at 45 is unlikely to ever be surpassed as a singular achievement in boxing.Comment

I didn’t realize Barrios was #2. I guess as the wbc champ he has to be. Yuck.

I agree with your points here.Comment

That’s my point. Nobody remembers Lalonde but everyone remembers Ray won world titles in 5 different weight classes, which he was the first to do as at the time as the WBO wasn’t recognised.
People won’t remember Barrios but they’ll remember the accomplishment, if Pac can pull off the upset. Can’t see it myself, I think it’s a terrible decision tbh.Comment

The division is very weak atm. Barrios is a very fortunate world champion IMO.

But I do agree the accomplishment would be a huge feat.
