I just watched the fight for the first time on youtube.
I scored it:
1. Dirrell
2. Dirrell
3. Dirrell
4. Dirrell
5. Dirrell
6. Froch
7. Froch
8. 9-9 even
9. Froch
10. 9-0 even
11. Dirrell
12. Dirrell
115-111 Dirrell. I agree that Dirrell should have been penalized a point for excessive holding, but the referee didn't. I guess the "leaning in" penalty made up for it. Froch on the other hand couldn't really be penalized for hitting in the back of the head because Dirrell kept ducking below the belt line and what other target did he have?
All in all, Dirrell was the MUCH cleaner, crisper puncher. He had way more pop in his shots. Froch rarely ever hit Dirrell cleanly. Froch's technique behind his punches looked horrible all fight and he really needs to learn how to throw a left hook. His balance was bad as usual also.
I'm starting to think after watching Froch fights that he could really benefit from keeping his left hand up. Not only because it would keep a tighter guard, but more importantly it would help with his handspeed. His left jab and hook aren't quick enough for him to be holding it at waist level. It's ****y but its really not functional for him. Fighters who hold their left low at least have some handspeed.
For those of you who gave Froch the win due to him coming forward:
I love an aggressive fighter that comes forward, but the question is what he does when he finally gets inside. Froch didn't throw good enough combinations when he did get in. I had Calzaghe ahead by a good margin against Bhop in their fight. Calzaghe's pressure though was a LOT more effective than Froch's. Froch rarely threw combinations, and when he did they were very poor technique. Also he always looked like the one who was off balance, even after the combinations.
I expect Froch to get knocked the **** out by Kessler next fight. Kessler's gonna catch him and catch him GOOD. Pretty sure it'll be Kessler vs. Abraham in the finals. Kessler to take home the trophy.
