Exactly right!
Been attending fights and getting to know the athletes for 54 years. I will never understand the mentality of "Fans" who honestly beleive that anyone ranked below 10 is a "Bum".
But I continue to post here in order to provide a unique perspective.
Here is one:
I can easily tell who has boxed, or been around the gyms and the fighters; from those who simply know boxing from their electronic devices.
So Easy to tell the difference.
Mike Balogun is an exceptional athlete and a fitness fanatic. He played college football for the Oklahoma Sooners. He was signed as a free agent by the San Francisco 49ers of the NFL. He has also played for the Washington Redskins, Tampa Bay Buccaneers, Buffalo Bills and the Dallas Cowboys. In Boxing, he's been in hard training for 10 years and sports a very good 21-1 record with 16 knockouts. He's 240 pounds of solid muscle and can very, very likely beat the **** out of any man in the NFL or the IRL.
He could have adjusted his training, gone into MMA and become a top contender there, but he has too much self esteem to be treated like that and paid like that as a top 10er; so he took the bigger risk for the bigger reward.
That isn't enough to hang with a child prodigy like Moses Itauma. I'm not saying that it is.......But NOBODY that the typical posters here hang around with would meet him in a dark alley and come out in one piece. Believe it.. The problem here is Frank's PR machine. They announce him as the "the future of the heavyweight division" and everybody's hopes and expectations get up sky high. Everybody wants to see him do what Mike Tyson did. On the other hand, Frank wants to protect his investment and step him up slowly and carefully so he does not get chinned too soon and so we get disappointed that he is fighting people we never heard of. Mismatch of expectations and reality.Comment

This is the promoter's dilemma and the curse of boxing. Create the expectation of a true champion's caliber (i.e., risk in the ring) while minimizing the real risk to his investment. It might be possible to have it both ways, but we grow weary of waiting for the generational talent that overcomes this oft-told tale of the circus barkers and their wares.Comment

I'm not the one who said he wanted to break Tyson's record as youngest ever heavyweight champion. If you're going to talk like you're going to break records, you gotta back it up by matching aggressively and quickly. If he said he wanted to build his career the right way and learn as he goes, I'd have had nothing to say. Has nothing to do with wanting him to lose. I was raised to say what I mean, mean what I say, and back up words with actions. Certain other posters here do not seem to agree with that (not talking about you, Boxing 112; I have generally zero issues with your posts).
I'd agree that it would be a perfectly good step up fight if the clock weren't ticking on his purported goal. But I don't see why it's unreasonable of me to hold him accountable to his own words. I have done the same with Janibek, Benavidez, Crawford, Canelo, etc, all of whom I respect deeply. If you don't want to, that's your business.Comment

It would be the ideal fight. Hughie gets a lot of stick but every fight he was meant to win he won easily and the 3 he lost were all close points decisions to Top 10 (at the time) guys. Then, look at the shots that Povetkin landed, bombs, and they just bounced off him. If Itauma could stop or even drop Hughie, it would be a real statement as neither Povetkin, Parker or Pulev came close to doing that. Wach had a great chin at one point, but been stopped 5 times now tells you that he's chewed meat at this stage. Nash out - His MajestyComment
