Knowing how much Shakur stood to make at 25% of the purse is important to know if you're gonna criticize someone for turning down 25%.

That might very well be a terrible attitude, but that more than likely was a decision made not only by Shakur, but his entire team that consists of his manager as well. They believed he deserved a better offer and that turning down said offer wouldn't affect his future earnings and they were right because he's still making millions and he's just hours away from making more millions on perhaps the biggest fight card to date.

Boxing is a business first nowadays and boxers have number crunchers wisely advising them on the business end of boxing. Love him or hate him, Shakur is not gonna be retiring from the sport broke as a joke as some of the past greats have done.

When you say Devin was willing to bet on himself, I'm assuming you're referring to him accepting 30% to fight Kambo Down Under where that fight was guaranteed to do big dollar numbers..

Devin vs Shakur at that time was not gonna generate the amount of money that Kambo fighting anyone down under back then would. I'll ask you, how much money do you think Shakur was gonna make fighting Haney at 25% of the split??

I can almost guarantee you that Padley's motivation for taking the fight has nothing to do with fighting for the undisputed championship and more to do with the amount of money that he was promised to take the fight. Hearn himself said that it was expensive to make the fight happen.

One has to also be honest and admit that Padley and Shakur are two fighters at way different levels and Padley more than likely would never again get such an offer. Not so with Shakur, as he turned down the offer that he felt was unfair and is still getting paid millions more than when he turned down 25% to fight Devin.

Shakur may never be respected or loved by hardcore fight fans, but he has made it apparent that he doesn't care what anyone thinks and he's gonna do it his way... I'm not a big Shakur fan, but I respect his abilities and the fact that he takes punches to the face for a living for my entertainment..
