  • Why is no one talking about Pov's record getting NC'd?

In addition, the athlete’s results from 25 October 2014 until the start of the athlete’s provisional suspension on 21 October 2024 have been disqualified, including the results obtained during a boxing match held on the night of 24/25 October 2014 in accordance with Articles 9 and 10.8 of the IBA ADR.
Not a single article on BS about this?

That reads like from 2014 his record is going to be NCs or some such.

Googling that quote led me to a corridor in the basement of boxing that I never knew existed! I had a poke around down there, and this is what I found:

The quote is from The International Testing Agency (ITA). The ITA was formed in 2018 in response to the discovery of systemic doping in Russian sports, with the alleged collaboration of the Russian Anti Doping Agency. The International Olympic Committee wanted an independent testing agency "in order to ensure that all athletes from every nation and every sport would be subject to an independently-run testing program" (Wiki)

Povetkin was investigated by the ITA on behalf of The International Boxing Association (IBA). They are the outfit that used to oversee Olympic boxing, but were expelled by the IOC because of concerns around corruption. The IBA have been reformed, under a new president, Umar Kremlev, a Russian, and they seem to be trying to worm their way back into favour with the IOC. But, "Kremlev's tenure has been controversial, with concerns raised by the IOC over the IBA's increasing ties to Russia after assuming the presidency." So maybe that's why they targeted Povetkin?

I've no idea how much sway the ITA and IBA have within professional boxing. Nothing has changed on Povetkin's BoxRec page so far.

Technically Fury is supposed to have a NC for the Hammer fight but everyone just ignored it.

Yeah man that's what made it weird to me there wasn't a thread. I'm just hoping one of our many writers sees this and sees the opportunity to do some journalism or one of the lived it guys like Rockin or Scully see this and explain it.

That's exactly the question though isn't it? Does AIBA even have the pull to change records? I'm pretty sure the bodies keep their own records but I could be wrong. Ain't no one cares about an IBA record, but, boxrec is the go to and they have swing enough for Boxrec, who already disrespects the bodies, then maybe it does matter.

                Nash found this online.

It might have been overturned, based on whom was supervising the contest (as per the Price-Teper bout, which was initially ruled a no-contest by the BDB, but the EBU maintained their rules take precedence and should be applied, therefore keeping the result of the bout).

                Here's the UKAD statement.

Initially the fight was a TKO victory for Fury in eight. Fury was charged with testing positive for a banned substance in early 2015.

Fury reached an agreement with UKAD for a back-dated ban of two years and for his win over Hammer to be scratched out.

The UKAD wording of the order reads: "All titles, prize money and ranking points that [Fury] secured as a result of his victory in that fight are forfeited."

So it’s feasible that the UKAD ruling may not have been applied if it didn’t have sufficient jurisdiction to amend the official outcome of the bout.

To be honest, I don't really know why BoxRec doesn't deem this bout as being a "no contest", but perhaps the WBO's or the BBBofC's ruling takes precedence over UKAD. Nash out - His Majesty
