James Toney is an all-time great fighter, but people must understand? Toney moved up into the Heavyweight Division, because he no longer wanted to make the weight limit in the lower weight classes. James Toney even during interviews, would state 'That he is out of condition at Heavyweight, and none of these fighters are the best boxers he has ever fought'.
Toney would numerous times, during his Heavyweight Campaign 'Make a reference to fighters, such as Mike Mccallum, Michael Nunn and more lower weight class fighters. As being skill for skill more superior to all of the Heavyweight fighters active during his era'.
And James Toney in retrospect was to a certain extent 'Stating a fact of the game'. Toney in the Heavyweight Division was facing bigger fighters in terms of overall mass, but skill for skill and even athletically? He was not competing against better fighters, than all of his nearest competition in the Middle, Super Middle, Light Heavyweight and Cruiserweight Division's.
When past great fighters such as Evander Holyfield and David Haye 'Moved up into the Heavyweight Division. They achieved this feat, by gradually increasing their mass simultaneously while maintaining or increasing their overall conditioning.
Evander Holyfield famously worked with Lee Haney, who was the 8 times Mr Olympia Body Building Champion. David Haye from what I have read, did not really need to body build himself up into a Classical Heavyweight Physique, and this is most likely due to? David Haye competing in the Cruiserweight Division, when the weight limit was moved to 200 pounds. Haye was already a Heavyweight, who was boiling himself to the 200 pound Cruiser weight limit.
Evander Holyfield was competing in the Cruiserweight Division, when the weight limit was set at 190 pounds 'So Holyfield more than Haye, had conditioned himself as a lower weight class fighter'.
Many people when they think of David Haye, may class his fight vs Monte Barrett as his first ever Heavyweight fight 'Monte Barrett vs David Haye, took place on November 15th 2008. Haye at this point in his career, had already became the Lineal and Unified Cruiserweight World Champion'.
David Haye first actual Heavyweight fight, was against a fighter called Tomasz Bonin in 2007, a fight he won by knockout in the first round. And this was only one fight away, from his fight against Jean Marc Mormeck for the Lineal Ring Magazine, WBC and WBA World Cruiserweight titles.
That type of competitive activity from David Haye, showed that he was already a Heavyweight fighter 'Even as a Cruiserweight, the only real altercations he had to make in his training in order to move up into the heavyweight Division. Was most likely with his diet, and not having to be too concerned with boiling himself down to a specific weight limit'.
The main point I am trying to make is? With fighters such as Evander Holyfield, David Haye and Oleksandr Uysk 'The process which they went through, to compete as Heavyweight fighters. Involved a very strategic, meticulous and tactical preparation'.
To conclude: James Toney in comparison, was a Heavyweight fighter 'Because he was out of condition. His ambition to be a Heavyweight fighter, did not involve much strategy. James Toney no longer wanted to train in the manner, which was necessary for him to be a lower weight class fighter. But even with this attitude, James Toney's skills and boxing ability was good enough for him? To compete at Heavyweight'.
I don't think the best version of James Toney at Heavyweight, beats any of those past great Heavyweight fighters 'But he may well survive, as Toney did have a great defense and elite level durability'
Stylistically out of all those fighters in that list, David Tua may be to most winnable fight 'But even still? David Tua at his absolute peak would be the favourite to win' etc.

What kind of idiot are you?
Micheal Nunn doesn't last a round vs Tua or AJ.
James Toney did nothing at HW to suggest he could be competitive with an elite, unified champion like AJ. Nothing. That's the reality of it.Comment
