Got nothing to do with race. Salido missed weight badly against Loma and got crucified for it. So did Garcia. Shakur missed weight and lost his titles. David Benavidez couldn't make weight and lost his title. Zurdo missed weight badly for light heavy not long after moving up. Adrian Broner lost his titles on the scale. So did Brandon Rios. So did Tank Davis. Happens to many fighters.

One big difference is that most of them weren't competing a division up for years. Lemos has been at 140 since 2019, excepting one fight with Lee Selby, and he then lost his #1 IBF spot he won in that fight with an even more egregious 8 lb miss in the very next fight, and ended up on the shelf for a year. He can't make 135, and I guarantee everyone, including Davis, knew that going in. You don't bring a guy with a history of missing weight down to the weight class he was forced to move out of, years later, and expect him to make weight. If he did make weight, he'd have been BADLY drained, and since he didn't, I'm sure he'll have to pay a financial penalty to Davis, who was the A-side anyways. So win-win for Davis.

I never said Devin missed weight, I was simply adding to my weight bully comment from earlier which is relevant to this conversation.

oh,and how about Shakur beating on little Valdez and Haney fighting an old small Lomachenko which was a very controversial win btw.

funny how you had nothing more to say about your cute lie of Marquez fighting at 140 before he fought Mayweather.

Danny Jacobs made weight to defend his IBF belt against Canelo acting like he would also meet the IBF’s next day rehydration clause which he missed on purpose trying to get an unfair advantage against Canelo and he STILL GOT WHOOPED! Hahahaha
Lies. The rehydration clause was from Canelo. Not the IBF

According to a statement from the IBF President, rehydration clauses, which limit how much weight a boxer can gain back after the weigh-in, will not be enforced for unification fights, meaning that when a boxer is fighting for multiple major titles in one bout, they will not be subject to strict weight rehydration rules.

The strict rehydration clause that Daniel Jacobs was penalized for in his fight against Canelo Alvarez was primarily due to a clause negotiated by Canelo's team, not a standard IBF rule; meaning Canelo essentially mandated the weight limit Jacobs had to stay under after weigh-in, which Jacobs ultimately exceeded, resulting in a large fine.

Mayweather didn't let Marquez drain him and whipped his ass lol. Canelo's PED steaks didn't work against Mayweather either. Canelo got the brakes beaten off of him

Google is definitely my friend too! Touché, you got me on the Canelo-Jacob’s but you were still wrong on the Marquez-Mayweather fight!

Good debate tho, I learned something new today!

you got that right DC and the way he tried to sell the fact he lost at the scale like " so what we fight anyhow " he should get burned for and punished for his lack of class. But the promo guys did not check in ? They did not have a reliable back up ? That is a problem too. Now what making weight dont matter ? Matter of fact both fighters seemed to act like so i get my check who cares screw the fan who takes this stuff serious.

Interestingly enough Keyshawn didn't seem to care that Lemos missed the weight. All he cared was that he was getting paid extra money. Sounds very similar to Devin Haney before the Garcia fight. If Lemos wins, I am sure the whole weight issue will become very significant for Davis.

They really need to make the punishment bigger for missed weight in the US as well. One of Japan's bigger amateur prospects (Hayato Tsutsumi) got a 6 month license ban and 20% purse fine for his missed weight offense earlier this year. Given the circumstances (he caught COVID a few weeks prior to the fight and couldn't cut weight until it was right before the fight and it was too late) he actually got a much lighter punishment for his first offense, but now if he were to miss it ever again he'll get the Higa punishment which is atleast 1 year license plus permanently not allowed to fight in that weight division ever again, possibly two divisions depending on the amount missed.

I for one absolutely hate unprofessional fighters in a weight sports, and also the reason that Casimero officially lost his chance forever at an Inoue payday.

Another thing about this case is that it probably doesn't bring up as huge of an uproar that it isn't a title fight of any sort, like those mentioned.

That's the thing here. Both fighters knew he wasn't going to make weight. He's made 135 successfully ONE time in the last 5 years and every other fight since then was at 140. He's missed 135 by 8 lbs and ended up on the shelf and losing his title shot the only other time he tried to make 135 in that time frame. You think that's down to professionalism, or being unable to make the weight? Do you think he should have turned down the fight and said "hey, go look somewhere else" knowing that he was not going to be able to make weight? This is always my issue when fighters pull guys down from weight classes that they're established at. They're either going to miss weight and get blamed for it, or be badly weight drained. When they're the B side fighter who doesn't get the opportunity to headline, what do you think they should do, as professionals? IMO context matters here. Both sides knew this was going to happen, and there were surely contractual penalties written in. I guarantee you Davis' team knew this was a strong possibility. If he wanted to fight Lemos straight up, he'd have offered the fight at 140, or chosen a guy already at 135. So who's really the one ruining the sport? The B-side, or the A-side pulling a guy down from a higher weight?

I can't argue with that. Good points!!
