Those guys are all playing basketball or football from a young age. Boxing isn’t on a lot of kids radars now unless they grew up around it.

I would argue, not very convincingly, that there is a case to be made that Richard Torrez shares *some* attributes with Tyson in terms of pressure, size, and style.

There has been. His name is Deontay Wilder. Knocked out lots of bums Tyson did the same about 20+ the first 2 years. Only difference is in this era social media people are ripped for fighting journeymen, in tysons era with no social media he could ko 30 bums and be called a reckoning force till he then got whooped by Buster

There was, his name is David Tua. He was the most comparable.

Well, he had the genetics but he lacked the drive, discipline and training methods.

Tyson was a one in a million situation where you had a guy where all the stars aligned perfectly to have that kind of success. It's already extremely rare to find a HW boxer with his unique set of genetics and attributes, it's also very hard to find a trainer like the ones from the catskills area, it might be even harder for this boxer to have that kind of motivation to keep up this kind of brutal and strict training and life style.

The posters hit it on the head too, that the big guys from today's era are difficult to overcome. Tyson himself would get leaned on and overmatched in some cases.

Another poster also hit it on the head about small HW's in the modern era almost always having success by using fast lateral movement and outspeeding bigger guys. Usyk, David Haye, Chris Byrd. How many guys this size are forward stalkers like Tyson and Tua nowadays?

Because he is a product of Cus Damato and that knowledge is lost.

Same reason there aren't a lot of U.S. heavyweights anymore. They saw they can make more money in the NFL, nba, etc. Last American heavyweight was all hype.

To me the closest thing to Tyson he had would be James Kirkland under Ann Wolfe.

Tyson was a perfect storm. He had the physical gifts, the drive, the discipline (before the pressures of being world champ became too much for him) and the trainer(s). We’re not likely to ever see someone like him again. We’ll never see another Ali again, either. These are unique athletes.

the HONEST truth is black ppl in "america" have largely moved on to other sports collectively, unfortunately for the sport of boxing. thus why we dont see the pugilists in boxing to a large degree pre 1990s.
