I think the thing with G is that most people didn't start noticing him til he was past or at the end of his prime. Really, the best version of GGG was that 2011-2015 version. As such, I decided to look at MW rankings from that time frame, for the sake of simplicity I just looked at Ring's EOY ratings.
Between 2011- and 2015, excluding GGG himself, 24 different fighters made the top 10 for MW, he defeated 8 of them. 13 made that list more than once, he defeated 6 of them. 16 Made the top 5 during that time frame, he defeated 6 of them.
Now, you could argue that it was a weak era, or that he shouldve moved around in weight (not something Ive ever cared for but to each their own). But he clearly was the best MW of the early 2010s and beat many of the others who were ranked as such.
