Won't fight Benavidez and claims he's too big. Didn't want a Bivol rematch. Chose a shot Kovalev over Beterbiev. But will challenge the winner of this fight? Yeah right. He'll only do that if the winner is damaged goods. Other than that it's not happening.

I would not be surprised. Though hes an underdog to both I always felt Beterbiev is a better matchup than Bivol. A war while it lasts.

what about John Ryder who Munguia splattered with consummate ease?

"For the entirety of my career, I have taken the fights that no one wanted because I fear no man," Alvarez said. "Never has that been more true than today. I will fight GGG, and I will beat GGG, but I will not be forced into the ring"

That quote encapsulates what Canelo is all about... The only guys Canelo fought and beat in their prime were Jacobs (close) Plant and Callum Smith. IMO he lost to Lara and the other peak guys he faced were weight bullied. He has very publicly failed a drugs test in the lead up to the biggest fight of his career and is now BLATENTLY ducking Benavidez because he realises he cannot beat him.

It's a shameful career from where I'm standing!

I agree that after Charlo was rocked, he fought to not got KOd. Serious question, did Ginger admit to not wanting to embarrass Munguia??? I don't think I had read or heard that.

Canelo is like a NBA player that came out of high school. He is still young in life but he has more fights and miles on him than other fighters his age.

His legacy is set. There’s no current fighter that will change what he’s done.

It is actually here in one of the news bits. He actually said that he didn't want to embarrass another Mexican fighter.

Believe him or not, Saul “Canelo” Alvarez maintains that his career vision is more of an event-by-event analysis rather than a grand plan extending years into the future.

There is a quote somewhere in the middle of it.

Neither fans of his nor non fans owe him anything. I do however hope that he fights Benavidez before he calls it a day as I believe it'll be a good fight

John Ryder has always taken a beating and kept coming. Canelo really pounded him and he was at the end of his career. Regardless Canelo knock both of them down. I am in no way saying that Canelo is a KO artist but usually power is the last thing a fighter loses.

I believe the article correctly pointed to to the Bivol fight as the last fight where Canelo was taking the maximum risk and chasing greatness. Something happened after that fight and his mind set changed.

Since losing to Dmitry Bivol in May 2022, a maximum-risk fight in a higher weight class against an undefeated boxer with a challenging style – matchmaking that was of a piece with much of the other greatness-hunting Canelo had done in his career to that point – he has dialed it down.

I guess we don't really know what changed and why has has dialed it down, but we can speculate. Perhaps he was embarrassed by the way he was schooled by Bivol? Perhaps he does not want to have another loss on his record? Either way, he does seem to want to go back into those waters again and rematch Bivol or take another high risk fight. He claims that he is the best, but his actions show that he is no longer willing to challenge himself and fight the best. Anyway, we have probably all had way too many articles about Canelo. I am probably getting a little bit saturated and jaded.
