Canelo is the Taylor Swift of boxing. We don't remember greats of the past saying they have earned the right to pick and choose. It's a new era of ultra-rich divas. Canelo is a hell of a fighter, but he likes being a diva.

Did this writer really suggest Canelo's top career win would be beating Benavidez who rejected Plant and Smith unifications only to end up going the distance with Plant (and getting boxed up for half the fight) after Canelo already stopped him? And that's Benavidez's top career fight. Meanwhile it was Benavidez who dropped his belt and left the division without activating.
In reality, recent opponents GGG and Mell brought more legacy to the table. GGG was a hall of famer who'd only lost to Canelo and remained a unified champ going in. And Mell notched up history as an undisputed champ-- and no neither fighter was naturally smaller--Canelo just chose to continue moving up to face career super middleweights and light heavyweights unlike those two who got the chance at 1 fight undisputed against a shorter fighter who started out below them in weight. People mainly try to downplay those wins because they're reluctant to give Canelo for shutting them down, never mind he also shut down super middleweight giant Smith in the same way, while champs Plant and Smith got stopped.
And how's the writer going to dismiss Munguia who actually made a statement by taking out Ryder after he went the distance with Canelo, unlike Benavidez. Munguia proved himself worthy by giving one of the gutsiest performances of a Canelo at 168.
It's also absurd to dismiss 6ft 154lb undisputed Mell, HOF unified middleweight GGG and Munguia coming off a statement win at 168 yet prop up Bud who's smaller than any of them and struggled in his only fight above 154.
Meanwhile, Canelo who started at 140 already fought 2 of the 3 Russian champs at 175 while the 3 haven't faced each other once, but now he's calling him to move to 200lbs? Canelo fought more champs than anyone today including the only fighter in history to unify titles at 154, 160 and 168-- and at 175 he's only the second fighter beside Hearns to claim a title moving up that many divisions. But 20 years into his career, he's supposed to single handedly chase every fighter from 147-200lbs? To top it off, he suggests it would be better for him to fight social media fighters than a top ranked challenger in his division lol?
It's interesting how people don't have that energy with Bud who's only fought 6 times over the past 6 years, or with Bivol and Beterbiev who took 7 years into being champs in order to unify in their one career division. Canelo handled his business-- he became the only fighter to unify all four titles at 168 and did it as the smallest fighter in the division, and is now actively defending against number one challengers. This is his second fight of 2024 with a third fight planned at a time when younger fighters, with only a fraction of his accomplishments combined, are barely active.

His legacy is set. There’s no current fighter that will change what he’s done.

Only two that matter at this point are Benavidez and a Bivol rematch but he aint fighting either. I’ll be glad when he fuggin retires. 168 will start to pick up again because Canelo wont be holding the division, im sorry, the sport hostage anymore. Same thing happened when Floyd retired, new crop of guys came in at 47 and started mixing it up. Guys like Thurman, DSG, Shawn Porter, Kell Brook, Errol Spence and later Bud Crawford got that shiht poppin again. Fucc that super star and diva Shiht. It just makes boxing look gimmicky, like wrestling. Would much rather see lesser known fighters, against evenly matched competition, that are gonna fight ANY and EVERYbody in their division. THAT keeps the sport alive. Its why 54 has been so hot these last few years. Mell Carlo, Swift Hurd, Banana Rosario, J rock Williams, Castano, Lara, Lubin. No stars but they mix it up. And the new crop at 54 will do the same. So good riddance Canelo.Last edited by Rbs3rd; 09-13-2024, 07:05 PM.

No one outside of fight fans care about Benny or know who he is. Fight happens or not won’t change what Canelo has done or his place as a top guy of his era. Cry more.

I dont give a fucc who or how many times he fought in the past. Benavidez was the other top guy in that division and Canelo swerved all the way around him. If it walks and quacks, guess what it is.
