A lot of people won't like what Roy Jones said! But the truth hurts Canelo will go down as one of the greats of the sport. People whining and B!cthing about it won't change that.

The PR mode is in full throttle and yes I agreed he can fight whoever he wants, please VACATE, he doesn't have the right to hold the division down. And mentioning cotto and Mosley without pointing out how past they were, is misleading. Yes he didn't lose a fight against ggg, on record, but he was the beneficiary of two controversial decisions and he waited him out, no comment on the third.

I would rather see Ginger facing Benavidez and feel that he is avoiding him, but isn't Berlanga a mandatory?? He already was stripped of the IBF title for not fighting their mandatory....

He shouldn't vacate the belts he plans on defending against mandatories...

Fighters who have the ability to pick their own fights have been held to that standard. Other fights don’t have that same luxury to make whatever fight they want. Canelo does and he’s picking shyt options.

History will not give a fig about Benavidez. From the perspective of history, Benavidez will not even be an asterisk. Everything about David is phony, from his claim to being Mexican, being a monster, and being a 168 lb boxer. He is an American who is a weight bully boxer with Ecuadoran, Dominican, and Mexican roots and who is a natural cruiserweight squeezing down to 168 for the weigh-in and rehydrating to cruiser a few hours later.

Sorry to break it to some folks here, it’s not because all it does is make other fighters want to hold out for a mega check. This is why I’m glad the saudis are in boxing. So the money excuse can be finally put to rest and even with their money you have Canelo saying no to them because they want him to step it up a notch for his pay. Imagine a tennis player saying I’m #1 in the world while ranked so but saying they won’t play the second best player. This is the only sport you see this nonsense in. You ain’t fighting the best, retire.
This. Of course Canelo's internet bodyguards won't see it that way.

I agree, the validity of his professional opinion is greater than mine or anyone else's on this forum...

Funny that people claim Roy has no agenda. A guy who was criticised for missing several quality opponents at 168-175 because he knew he could get easy money fighting lesser opposition is defending a guy who is doing the exact same thing. Wow, no possible agenda there These 2 both failed drug tests and claimed contamination as well so if Roy defends him over that I'm sure there will be no agenda either.

“A true champion doesn’t ask for a rehydration clause,” Jones said. “A true champion knows if he takes a fight, the fight is on. With no clauses.

                      “Canelo is a true champion.”

Roy musta forgot Canelo having used rehydration clauses in the past. He used one vs Kovalev, so therefore according to Roy, Canelo is not a true champ at 175. He also used one for the Jacobs fight, and tried to use one to drain Badou Jack for their proposed fight.
