The same would happen to 154 if Boots went to that division. No one will fight him in that division as well. The promoters and greedy fighters have changed the way boxing is perceived these days.

Canelo can change this by accepting the Benavidez and Morrell fights and taking his beatings like a man. If the top dog in boxing were to get some balls then it would trickle down to the smaller and lesser known fighters and boxing would be more popular again.
But Boots could be fighting anybody, 3 x year. Somebody will accept. So if the Top 3 or 4 guys don't want it, move down the list until the next guy does. That's what everybody ought be doing, though it's been said before.

And instead these guys are trying to jump to the #1 guy or fight nobodies, both for big money.

And Canelo is just holding belts hostage at this point, and has been since after Bivol, at least. Except for a cherry pick gone wrong, he prob wont lose them before retiring.

Ok, I misunderstood what you meant there.

According to what I read, Boots got $3million for his last fight. I guess Matchroom must be overpaying him, but he's a lot bigger financial draw than Chukadzian, so there's no reason why Eddie would want to bid high for a fight between them. If the fight goes ahead, Chukadzian's promoter will be paying him. All Hearn has to worry about is topping up Boots' purse.

Ennis' last purse vs. Crowley/Avanesyan was also based on a purse bid. We don't know what Ennis' contract minimum is.

There is no doubt that Ennis vs Crowley would have sold much better than Ennis vs Chukadzian, given that Crowley was undefeated and Ennis already beat Chukadzian easily last year. Ennis is rumoured to be on a $3million guarantee with Matchroom. If that's true then he must have been willing to forgo a big % of his guarantee to offer Norman $1.75 million, which Eddie Hearn hinted at in an interview I watched.

If he's got a 3 million guarantee, why did Matchroom only bid half that for the fight?

Boots at 154 with the final belt for Crawford to become three division undisputed will suddenly make him a super hot commodity for Crawford, and that match will more than make up for money lost overpaying for IBF belt in the long run.
That is the only way Crawford will be interested in fighting Boots. The question is - how likely is Boots to take a pay cut and/or how likely is Eddie to overpay for a belt at 154?

I think MR bid so much for Ennis/Crowley because they knew PBC would be interested in the match-up as well.

They didn't need to win the bid and they maybe didn't even want to win it. The more they bid, the more they would have to pay Chukadzian if they won. So far as I know, there's no law that says a promoter can't pay their fighter extra money on top of his purse bid split. So let Chukadzian's promoter win the bid and pay part of Boots' guarantee for them. That's if the fight even happens. It's looking like Boots might relinquish the belt and move up to 154.

                    Yeah, that's possible.
