It's also been suggested that he doesn't have a solid resume. Shakur Stevenson hits hard enough; and his power is increasing as he grows into a man. He has also fought solid opposition and he's won decisively. Two opponents who come to mind are James Herring and Oscar Valdez. Shakur took Herring's belt by TKO, and knocked down and beat an undefeated Valdez (who was 30 and 0 at the time), by unanimous decision.

Shakur is dangerous and respected enough in the boxing community in that quite a few boxers avoid him - Loma is one. Folks are calling for Shakur to face Zepeda. I think Shakur outclasses him - so Golden Boy probably won't make that fight.

I dunno is anyone realize this but: Shakur Stevenson's opponents have a collective average of less than 2 losses in their careers. That's impressive. If this is boring, I'm lost as a boxing fan that loves this sweet science. He beats his opponents and they're legitimately decent boxers. The only boxer who I believe can be a nightmare is Tank, and I still give Shakur a chance. Shakur is talented and a sharp boxer.

BUT I call it the Vanilla Ice bandwagon syndrome. We have a lot of followers who allow others to formulate their opinions. 7 million people bought the Vanilla Ice album because they were told he could rap. A lot of people were told that Shakur is boring and they believe it. They'll come a day where a lot of people will say he's exciting, because they are going to be told this, and they're going to believe it....But.....he's not going to change much. He'll be the same boxer......but....It's going to be the Vanilla Ice Syndrome at work
No one is saying that Shakur doesn't have talent , skill or a good resume. We are saying that he's boring and no one needed to be told by anyone else that he is. The people on this board watch fights , Shakurs included , that's how we know that he's boring, no one had to tell us , we can see. Every round in a Shakur fight is the same as the one before it and the one after it. You can like it if you want. Most boxing fans don't. The only thing that's going to convince people that he's exciting , is if he actually becomes exciting. 7 million people bought the Vanilla Ice album because they liked that one catchy song, not because someone told them that he was secretly Chuck D. That whole idea and analogy is a failure in my opinion.

So are black NBA players but we don't see them complaining.

The only fighter that I remember ever watching throw punches while jumping back is Shakur. I couldn't believe my eyes.

I didn't even see him throw when he was jumping back. He jumped back vs De Los Santos a good 3 feet. How could he connect with a punch from that distance?

Bernard Hopkins talked about this 20 years ago.

Super talented Black fighters who aren't KO artists (ala Mike Tyson or Tank Davis) are always labeled boring.

Same thing happened to B-Hop, Pernell, Floyd, Devin, Ward, & everybody else who's more skills based.

I agree with the Loma/Usyk comparisons because they'll go on & on about how they're "playing chess" when they're not stopping people.

A lot of it's our own folks, who are mostly casuals these days, who are more into basketball & football & only watch boxing when Tank is fighting most of the time.

We used to get boxing more as a community.
I disagree. I believe Shakur is a highly talented fighter who doesn't always utilize his gift. The fact that he's a brother has nothing to do with it for me. He can box circles around a lot of these guys without knocking them out, but the appearance of laying back and even jumping out of the way constantly, does him a disservice and just plain makes him look bad.

The rest of the fight he was potshotting..clinching and weak jabbing. Why don't we get all FIRE AND BRIMSTONE over Bivol doing it but Shakur catches heat?
If Shakur fought like this there would be no criticism. The difference between them is night and day (not a euphemism for skin colour).
