It is the alphabet soups organizations and canelo's fault, period. Once those belts are vacated, you're going to see better fights and less waiting.

I think Benavidez is just one of the last ones left in a now dead division

Ideally, yes, the best fight the best available, but I just don't think he's good enough to be considered a full fledge duck, so much as Canelo's trying not to burn out after 60+ fights unless it's really worth it

Sidenote, you've been pretty serious lately, man. Hope all is well
canelo fans dont seem to rate him that high but overall people do rate him as a hard test, he may turn out to be over rated as lots do but that kudos i guess will be bestowed on the person who shows he is actually over rated

lol, yeah thats a serious lol i guess, lots of crap going on here these days, its a slog sometimes as we all know

It is a duck, how can you be a fan of the sport and not want to see that fight? Every ginger fan is coming with some ridiculous excuses. He's not fighting benavidez because the odds are to even for comfort. When he started fighting at SMW the first thing he said was "I won't fight Mexicans again" what he really meant was, "I won't fight benavidez". If he's fighting berlanga, why he didn't fought Morrell Jr?

Were not just talking about in-ring controversy. There was also PED usage in the lead up to the 2nd fight.

Either way, cool. Canelo "beat" GGG in the 2nd fight.......name the other future HOF fighter's that he's taken their 0.

GGG and MAYBE Jacobs? And Jacobs will maingly make it in the HOF due to sympathy reasons not because of having some stellar resume.

Ask him why they didn't score the first fight with the same criteria.

                LMFAO

I feel the moment this fight was confirmed I felt like one of those criminals that got pinched by the police and flipped while getting grilled in the interrogation room.

I’m still hoping at some point the Benavidez fight gets made. Not that I think he needs it for hall of fame status (cause that’s already a lock) but because there’s been so much build-up around it that by this point it’s hard to remain optimistic over the probability that Benny will get picked. To me, that Berlanga pick felt like I got whacked by a goodfella while eating at a diner.

I must be an anomaly then. I still don’t think Canelo absolutely needs the fight and I still think he beats Benavidez.

I think Canelo’s counters are too sharp, too experienced, Benavidez has holes in his defense, and I think the moment is going to rattle Benny’s cage when he sees how ballistic the arena/crowd/moment is going to be.

Canelo’s battle-tested and his nerves pass the test. I think what Benavidez has going for him is probably activity (which might go down due to counter punches), and youth…but no. Having said that, I still think wholeheartedly that Canelo beats him.

And if I’m wrong and he beats Canelo, so sue me. I’ll own up to it. But I think Canelo DOES beat him. Always have.

Why on God's green earth would he do this to himself? Fighting him and taking an L would have been far less harmful than what this will end up being long term.
He is scared to get the crap beat out of him and likely stopped. If Benavidez was a decision machine like Bivol, Canelo would have fought him and taken the loss, but he knows Benavidez comes to do serious damage. His ego couldn't take a beating like Chavez did vs Oscar, Kostya.

So your still judging Benavidez on a fight when he was 20 years old 7 years ago? Unreal. I guess Canelo rates him a bit higher than you do hey?

That they lost to 1, 2 or even 3, doesn't ***** all of the wins they scored against some of the toughest boxers, and champions that the Mexicans had at the time!
Margarito's win was tainted (loaded gloves), and Cotto stopped him in their rematch, when Margarito had to rely on his own power (without the aid of plaster).
I was at the garden when Cotto won the rematch. I bet my ex girl some head that Trinidad would beat Oscar. She picked Oscar, so I'll never forget that fight. She was a once -in- a- century hoover lol. So I rock with puerto rico sometimes. I rock the hardest with Camacho because he was from my hood, so I'm proud of that, and Carlos Ortiz, who I had the pleasure to meet at Gleason's gym, and make him dvd copies of some of his fights that he said he had never seen b4. ( vs. Harry Bell, Bobby Rodgers, felix chiocca, johnny busso 1 & 2, len matthews, battling torres, johnny bizarro and others) I was shocked he never saw them, and he was shocked I knew his fights and had them on film. I felt happiness to make copies for him so he could re-live those memories b4 he passed away
