I've noticed. In order to keep the Canelo payday alive, fighters and their teams are being careful. The blame is laid at Canelo's feet because he's the single most important fighter in every division he steps in. It's the responsibility that is thrust upon you when you're Undisputed and the cash-cow. But I said it months ago: if you put Benavidez in Canelo's shoes, he would be maneuvering the same way. DB wanted to face guys like Jermall and Munguia. He agreed to face former LMW in Andrade and former MW in Lemiuex. That's why BodyBagz constantly brings up Benavidez's resume every-time the "Canelo is ducking David" topic comes up: to remind people that Benavidez is no better. Team DB has been a willing participant in chasing Canelo because they're using Canelo to market themselves. He could've moved up before or after Andrade to start getting acclimated to 175.

It’s not just the Canelo payday effect, though. In other weight classes the contenders are cherrypicking and avoiding each other too.

It’s a promoter/network rivalry problem. But then again even in-house contender matchups don’t get made either…so really this is a boxing-wide issue.

Canelo has the power to cross those boundaries. Hell, he has the power to fight boxers from other promotions....on other networks! PBC has hosted Canelo vs. two DAZN fighters under their new Amazon Prime deal. First Munguia (GBP) in May, and now Berlanga (Matchroom) in September. Fans are left concluding that Canelo is ducking Benavidez because he can fight whomever he wants to. Yet, we also ignore that PBC didn't originally negotiate for Benavidez to be one of Canelo's opponents, and that supposedly the Charlos and Spence were rumored opponents. In -Kev-'s thread, I mentioned that fans are expecting Canelo to cure their apathy for the sport, but Canelo's (enabled) behavior is symptomatic of bigger problems. PBC literally cannot afford to tell Canelo to kick rocks. It's a symbiotic relationship in which one fighter currently wields too much power.

Top Rank is a good example of in-house matchups not happening. They pretty much control 126lb, so where are the unifications? However, all of them have Inoue's name in their mouths. Inoue, like Canelo, has all the marquee value. TR is basically gonna use Inoue to market their 126lbers.

If there’s ever a card to NOT buy out of principle, it’s this one.

Even a Jake Paul card is a better buy than this.

Next Canelo’s gonna challenge Jake Paul. Watch.

Or fight Morrell jr, who has been avoided by everyone in the division.

My theory is that Canelo has been trying to force the toughest contenders to remove each other from the equation, so that he only has to deal with the last man standing. However, his strategy isn't working because guys like Benavidez/Mbilli/Morrell are simply not fighting each other. Team Benavidez (Sampson iirc) used the excuse that Benavidez/Morrell needed to be marinated until it was a unification...and that Canelo is to blame because he holds all of the 168lb titles. Personally, I think he's just trying to put all the responsibility on Canelo, but we're going to see what happens now that Benavidez and Morrell are both at 175lb. Since Benavidez is still within Canelo's sphere of influence, I expect Team DB to continue being careful with their matchmaking.

                  Canelo - Mexicans & Americans
Berlanga & Garcia - proud Puerto Ricans
                  Lara - 2 Cubans drinking in a pick-up truck
Lol! But what do P.Ricans have to be proud of or cheer for? A past it fight for the decision boring Garcia, and a extremely overrated hype job with a obviously bs inflated ko record full
of cans who will be starched by Coward Canelo in less than 3…more if Canelo chooses to carry him for entertainment purposes. Tito fresh out of retirement would give Canelo a better fight and more ppv buys!!!!

It’s the Caleb plant method. It worked for him to preserve the Canelo payday, it worked for Munguia, it would have worked for Charlo had he stayed active and now Bellanga so they all will keep doing it. Canelo can get blamed for sure but these others deserve lion share of the blame as well. They wont risk it until the Canelo payday is out of the way
