Like, what if Canelo, a master counter puncher, caught him with that same hook that knocked him down and almost out if there was more time left in the fight? I think Benavidez is just one of the last ones left in a now dead division
Ideally, yes, the best fight the best available, but I just don't think he's good enough to be considered a full fledge duck, so much as Canelo's trying not to burn out after 60+ fights unless it's really worth it
Sidenote, you've been pretty serious lately, man. Hope all is well

Lol so? Every close fight is controversial. The judges scored in favor of Canelo's power punches and ring generalship over GGG's jab and fear to really throw any meaningful combination
don't try to rewrite history
Either way, cool. Canelo "beat" GGG in the 2nd fight.......name the other future HOF fighter's that he's taken their 0.
GGG and MAYBE Jacobs? And Jacobs will maingly make it in the HOF due to sympathy reasons not because of having some stellar resume.

I feel the moment this fight was confirmed I felt like one of those criminals that got pinched by the police and flipped while getting grilled in the interrogation room.
I’m still hoping at some point the Benavidez fight gets made. Not that I think he needs it for hall of fame status (cause that’s already a lock) but because there’s been so much build-up around it that by this point it’s hard to remain optimistic over the probability that Benny will get picked. To me, that Berlanga pick felt like I got whacked by a goodfella while eating at a diner.

It is a duck, how can you be a fan of the sport and not want to see that fight? Every ginger fan is coming with some ridiculous excuses. He's not fighting benavidez because the odds are to even for comfort. When he started fighting at SMW the first thing he said was "I won't fight Mexicans again" what he really meant was, "I won't fight benavidez". If he's fighting berlanga, why he didn't fought Morrell Jr?
I must be an anomaly then. I still don’t think Canelo absolutely needs the fight and I still think he beats Benavidez.
I think Canelo’s counters are too sharp, too experienced, Benavidez has holes in his defense, and I think the moment is going to rattle Benny’s cage when he sees how ballistic the arena/crowd/moment is going to be.
Canelo’s battle-tested and his nerves pass the test. I think what Benavidez has going for him is probably activity (which might go down due to counter punches), and youth…but no. Having said that, I still think wholeheartedly that Canelo beats him.
And if I’m wrong and he beats Canelo, so sue me. I’ll own up to it. But I think Canelo DOES beat him. Always have.Last edited by TintaBoricua; 07-26-2024, 07:18 PM.

Why on God's green earth would he do this to himself? Fighting him and taking an L would have been far less harmful than what this will end up being long term.

Gomez, Trinidad, Cotto, Benitez, Camacho, Vasquez, Ortiz, Escalera, and the list goes on, and on had many more wins against Mexicans, then the other way around!
That they lost to 1, 2 or even 3, doesn't ***** all of the wins they scored against some of the toughest boxers, and champions that the Mexicans had at the time!
Margarito's win was tainted (loaded gloves), and Cotto stopped him in their rematch, when Margarito had to rely on his own power (without the aid of plaster).Last edited by archiemoore1; 07-26-2024, 07:44 PM.
